We made it to SXM for a couple of weeks on Tuesday. We have done the airport entry two times, since we went to Statia last week to visit family. The kiosks would not scan our new passports with the hard cards at the back either time and we were sent to the “see officer” line. However, both times it was quick. 8 minutes from stepping off the plane (jetway first time, small plane-bus-stairs 2nd time) to exiting immigration this time… not much more the first time on the Delta flight. The biggest line was the one for customs to scan our luggage – about 10-15 minutes, but was a morning flight arrival.
Met Lesley with the car (he makes it so convenient, we’d never use anyone else!) and we were on our way at about 11:45am. Stopped by Maho Market to pick up a few supplies on the way to the AirBnb in Terre Basses, where we were allowed to check in early.
I had work issues to deal with, so we stayed around the condo for the afternoon and headed over to Altro in Porto Cupecoy for dinner. It has become one of my favorites for reasonable prices, good food, and easy to get to from where we stay (lots of easy parking as well!). We ordered off the $39 menu. We both got the lamb chop/lamb shank entrée along with homemade bread and olive oil which was divine! I had burrata stuffed tomato and he had smoked salmon for appetizers. For dessert, molten chocolate cake and Pavlova. Everything was good and we were plenty full… my only comment would be that the lamb chop was very small. With a cocktail, 2 glasses of wine and dinner, it was about $110 plus tip… no 15% added to the bill.
I agree about Altro - one of my favorites as well. I had the "lamb two ways" in November and also felt the entree could have been a little more substantial, but I loved my tomato/fried mozzarella app. For $39, I can't complain.
Scubaman - I'm crushed you didn't read my report where I also posted a picture of the lamb.
