MJ and I heard that Dopsie's was open for a soft opening so we went this last Saturday night. We got there and there was about 10 people at the most in the place, we sat at the bar. Not advertised as open so we didn't flinch. I had an Old Fashioned which was a solid pour of bourbon with a small curled orange peel that I discovered after drinking about half of the cocktail. No cherry. No complaint from me and it was again a solid pour for the $17, presentation was 3rd rate and for a place like this it would be hard to say that is acceptable to a normal high end customer and certainly not to the bartender that Jimbo had at Nola. MJ's Cab pour was solid as well, and it was a decent wine. I would note that our visa receipt showed Bamboo House, which was not a surprise. We saw no food menu, and did not ask for one.
The music was a singer with a percussionist and two guitars, not bad but closer to average than a high club level talent. We visited and did not wanting to post on this yet to give them a chance for a better night after the listed opening, trying to be fair and give them the benefit of a doubt. We were not expecting success based on what we experienced.
Monday night, grand opening? We go to Huppel on Monday nights for their live music, at least as often as we have energy for. While there we decided to go over and see how it was going at Dopsie's and walked down to take a look, just before 11pm. Dark, like closed for a while before we arrived. So, we decided to give it another chance thinking maybe they closed early. So we went tonight (Tuesday) at about 830pm, dark and closed. I can not confirm they once had a sign in neon in the front before but tonight it was wires with no sign there.
We will see, disappointed for the many hopeful for this place, and who knows there could be a delay that they have not communicated noting they have not done a great job promoting the place. If they do open, they will need to do a whole lot better than our night of the soft opening. I am not optimistic at all for the place.

I sent you a PM. I contacted Vanessa after your PMs and she contacted owner. They are having issues with getting the kitchen opened and official opening is now this coming Friday. Your prediction may turn out to be correct, but I'm holding out for better reviews after they are officially open.

Not a good start, especially with people with experience involved.

I wish only the best for them but we shouldn't have to work to gain this info when there are so many options to post updates. I hope they can prove me wrong, I could see stopping by for a cocktail or two. So far based on my very limited experience I am not able to visualize success for this venture.

Ever since Saratoga closed years ago, the location seems doomed for failure. I know Saratoga was there for a long time but my one dining experience while it was Saratoga left a lot to be desired. All other attempts at the location have been short-lived as well.

It's a shame that Jimbo and NOLA didn't last; that was a class act. I don't know what happened there, and I don't care to; I just know the times we went there, it was very enjoyable.

Class act, yes. The one time I went there, though, I wasn't that fond of the menu. Island rumor is that Jimbo is opening something where Perle Blue used to be, but, rumor....

Last time I saw Jimbo (next table at Little J a few weeks ago) he told me he was opening a Mexican place at the old Perle Bleu. I told him he could count me as a customer.

I don't think I'd be quick to judge the place when it wasn't really open. The band has been rehearsing just outside my window all afternoon, seems like they'll put on a good show tonight. That said, pretty funny when you change the name FROM NOLA only to hire a band that sounds like Dr. John in a New Orleans club.
