Well it took a hour from the time we walked into the terminal to get to our gate. New technology is wonderful if it works!! The first machine would print the boarding pass but wouldn't print the bag tags, so had to get in line to see an agent and the couple infront had everything printed out in hard copies but that didn't work. Fifteen minutes later they were told step to the side. The line for security scanning, I watched a number of people duck under the line straps and bud in at the front of the line. Everything is OK now, I am at the gate with my $11 rum punch. Rant over.
It was a wonderful trip. Renewed old friendships and made some new ones. Met a couple at Rendezvous who live about a hour from us at home and have a 46 foot sailboat anchored in Marigot until May. They generously offered to sail us over to St Barths for a couple of days when we return to the island in 6 weeks. Not sure if we want to live on a sailboat again. Been there done that. But I might suggest a day sail during the Heineken Regatta. Our accommodation at La Terrasse was sort of OK (air b&b). But rather than save a buck I prefer to have a front desk to solve any issues. So we canceled the air b&b for our Feb month long stay. We drove over to SBR and they got us in there for the next trip. Lucky. I'm sure I will have more to say later or maybe in a few minutes
Thanks for taking us along. It concerns me with the technology equipment being so new that they are already having issues with equipment. I had a similar experience in Aug. Hoping to see you in a couple of months. Safe travels.
I was on winair yesterday pm and it was quite the debacle at checkin. I had a bag check, it took at least 15mins to find my confirmed rsvp and then the printer cacked... when this was resolved, a huge line formed behind me... oh oh!
Then, at boarding after a 4 hr delay, they couldnt find my boarding credentials. Someone had my assigned seat.. not to worry, they accommodated me prof.
Lesson: book a confirmed seat... i heard the staff repeatedly try to accom me due to "confirmed ticket"... right up to the stewardess who was directing me to the jump seat.
Yesterday was not a successful travel day for many, it seams. Prayers for those travelling today.
Thanks for all the comments. Plane was loaded and ready to leave SXM at 1:25 and went down the runway at 3pm. I think it was because of all the private jets taking off like this one.
Tail number is 1DC, and it's owned by the Dallas Cowboys (note the distinctive star logo). It's possible (likely?) Jerry Jones or a family member is on the island.
