This is what the island has been missing - a real nightclub.

NEW COMING TO SIMPSON BAY(former NOLA location)! Dopsie’s Jazz Club! Grand opening Monday January 6, doors open at 6pm, music 8-11. The schedule is as follows:

Monday: STORMY MONDAY. Mellow, bluesy laid back with female vocalist
Tuesday: MARDI GRAS. New Orleans styled jazz
Wednesday: ALL THAT JAZZ. Like name implies all sorts of jazz
Friday: Traditional jazz
Saturday: Modern Jazz

If you love jazz, prepare to be amazed! This band is FANTASTIC! 1-721-520-3600 for reservations.

There are some postings on facebook by individuals but I did not find a direct link. Drink prices ranged from $8 for a Corona to $14 for a glass of house wine and $17+ for cocktails. Good luck.

Yeah, that was kind of what I was thinking. If there is also a cover charge, the prices are ridiculous.

What was posted was from the "soft opening", I believe they officially open next week and they will have a tapas menu. No idea on a cover charge since they are not fully open yet.

good luck to them…hopefully they will find their clientele, but it seems to me that SXM’s bread & butter target audience are those wearing tank tops and cutoff jeans, drinking 2for1 happy hour drinks while drunkenly singing along to “sweet home Alabama “ being played by an average skilled cover band

We plan on Huppel Monday night but will probably stop by for a look. I will be wearing nice shorts and tshirt so will see if welcome. I am laughing at the "SXM's bread & butter target audience". We don't really go to "clubs" much any longer in our lives but do remember back in the day some 15 or so years ago paying more than those listed prices in Vegas. I think a club of this kind would be a welcome addition, hopefully it does well. If I read it correctly on Linda's post she knows and approves of the musicians and that says a lot.

Live music is best, always good to have more options.

Not to steal Linda's thunder but that was a copy and paste that Jimmy put on a Jeff Burger post. Not her personal endorsement.

I copied it from a FB post of an islander who attended the soft opening; I don't read Berger. But I am excited at the possibilities this place presents. I hope they can get enough business to stay in business as I do like what I've seen/read so far.

My favorite quote of the day as long as we are quoting. I certainly read it wrong, and was hopeful based on your post, but will remain hopeful even knowing where the original post came from. Really hopeful for you Linda! If good we then would know where we are likely to run into you! Lol They are going to have to make some serious money to pay the nut for that venue.

Gotta go, MJ is asking where her damn cocktail is! 60 minutes until sunset at Dany's!

I agree if the prices mentioned are correct. For Canadians, once you add on the ridiculous exchange, most of us are looking for a relaxed, fun time, hitting happy hours, meeting people, etc. Some of my friends are saying the all inclusives at other islands are looking way better. Now I, myself, would never do an all inclusive on any island, but especially SXM.....and the costs for cheap AI's had gone up as well. But, having said that, will always choose SXM, heading there in January, but will seek out fun places with more reasonable prices, if only looking for drinks and socializing. Now, food? thats a different thing....have no problem paying for an excellent meal. We have just had three days of tons of snow and storms, ,,,the 21st cant come soon enough.

We'll be to the island in a couple of weeks. We'll be there for 6 weeks. I'm not a drinker but my wife likes a beer once in awhile. Are there any places on the island anymore that you don't pay the same price for 2 beers as you do for a 24 pack of beer? I'm kind of old school and a tight arse when it comes to things like that. It has been almost 8 years since our last trip to SXM. I've heard prices are up, but just how much I guess we'll find out.

You can still find beer for $3-4 at many of the bars on the island.

If you don't mind mingling with a bunch of dirty yachties, Soggy Dollar Happy hour has $1 beers, (plus all the sailing lies you can eat).
