So if you have been to Bacchus you know what it is, a high end wine shop with some other goodies like caviar and Nespresso stuff with a lunch only restaurant.
It’s like a 1 star Michelin restaurant in the Hope Estate complex behind Super U, those who need a view of the ocean not bother.
The items were all from the specials menu and they have a full regular menu as well.
Starters 6 gillardeau oysters and bone marrow.
Mains veal chop (cooked a perfect medium) and truffle risotto but instead was with some macaroni pasta, a slight let down.
Dessert was their lemon tart with sorbet, very light and refreshing and espresso.
Not cheap but isn’t easy to get type of meal back home especially for the price.
Wasn’t told, so not perfect. The wine was excellent, slight salinity and mineral tone. Was 81€ but doubt could find cheaper back home, if at all. They had a grand cru Chablis but was around 120€.
One of our favourite places as well, and agree prices are actually pretty competitive with restaurants round here (Ottawa) especially for wine. For dessert our favourite is their rum baba, never had better. Dave.
Ha, I think a lot of people here don't know where it is or care to find it! I wouldn't worry about it getting too crowded, maybe 6 tables taken when leaving around 2pm on a Friday.
The owner always seems to be on hand and I don't think he actually cares about making too much money from the restaurant, just a place he would like to eat.
Bacchus is our cloudy day go to always starting off with their reasonably priced caviar
almost always order off the list of specials but looks like they have made some nice new additions to the regular menu
on our last visit in August, service was sub par and learned from someone we know from the wine shop that they were aware of the situation and having a hard time finding staff
Could spend hours dreaming through the wine especially the white burgundies
you couldn't touch them back in Pennsylvania restaurant where there is a 300% mark up
life is too short to not drink good wine, moving in several months and got plenty of mature wine to drink, keeping my fingers crossed on some of the aged bottles, several large format bottles which should be okay
"moving in several months and got plenty of mature wine to drink" That's a tough job but sometimes a necessary one. I would hate to have to move as I rack between 1200 to 1500 bottles at any given time at my home. 99% reds. If you need help let me know.
That’s a lot of bottles, might qualify as a hoarder.
Not a horder. Just a wine enthusiast and partake every night with dinner with my spouse. Life's too short not to enjoy a fine wine with the one you love. 🍷
Thank you for your very tempting photos. Bacchus is truly one of the great lunch treats to be found on the island. Fortunately the location means that most tourists will never find it, because indeed it isn’t for everyone. I hope that the Risotto remains on the menu until I have the chance to try it. The menu does indicate that it is a Risotto de Coquillettes (small shell pasta) and not rice. For anyone who cares, the verb Risottare refers to the cooking method rather than just the actual ingredient of rice. Because pasta breaks down faster to a mushy consistency, a risotto of pasta is often considered a harder dish to successfully make than with Arborio rice. I hope yours was good, the photo certainly looks like it was.
