I just saw that. We have a Barclay's card, so will need to figure out what to do. Although it looks like current Barclay's card holders will be able to transition to CitiBank? We have a really high credit limit on the Barclay's card. Wouldn't want to lose that.

I'm more concerned with the rental car collision coverage it has that CITI dropped a few years back.

So I guess you have a Barclay's card also?

Yes. I will probably keep it and only use it for my car rental even though I'll get no miles. My wife and I already each have a AA Platinum Select CITI card we use for all purchases plus I have a AA business CITI card too. We use those miles every year for our FC return tickets from SXM with no problems.

We have a business CITI card, but not a personal one at the moment.

Next time you fly on AA take the promo for a CITI card and get the bonus miles they offer for new accounts. That's what my wife and I each did awhile back and picked up 50,000 miles each after spending 2,000 with the card.

You might consider looking at the American Express Platinum Card, it is not inexpensive but if you can make use of the benefits it is a pretty good card. I really like their car rental insurance, peace of mind more than my other cards that have it. My other key cards are Chase Hyatt (business and personal) and Bank of America Alaska Airlines. I travel more than most and all three are great travel cards. I do have the AA Citi but probably going to drop it, AE gives good AA benefits. The Points Guy does a good comparison. The sign up bonus on the AE Platinum card is pretty good as well.

Both my wife and I have the Bank of America Alaska Airlines personnel and business cards. Neither ones covers foreign car rental collision insurance like the Barclays does.

Scuba--I may do that, but not planning on flying for a while yet.
Todd--I don't travel enough to justify the cost for that AE Platinum card.

Todd unless things on island have changed we found very few places that took our AMEX. We now use Barclay with Jet Blue points as one of our cards.

I use my Chase Hyatt or BofA Alaska card on island, but car rentals i usually do on Amex. If SXM is the only place you travel to and for limited time then tha AE card probably isn't for you. If you do travel more, it is worth looking at the benefits from AE Platinum or other premium cards. Add one item, as an example Priority Pass is included, no fee to use the SXM lounge with PP.
My priority is Hyatt status, then Alaska Airlines status. AE comes third but I certainly take advantage of all the benefits of each. It's a hobby that pays well.
