Hello, I am chartering a 40' cat in BVI in mid-march 2025. What should I expect regarding mooring availability? I know about boatyballs, but I would hate to wake up every morning before 7 to scrum with spotty internet. I want the vacation to be about sailing and exploring, rather than rushing every morning to secure a mooring by 9-10 . Please advise which harbors I can realistically expect to find mooring after 1200, and which I should not even bother and opt for anchorages.
I"ve been to BVI three times before but never as a captain. Last time it was 2021. I don't remember any difficulties in getting mooring. Thank you

Cooper and great harbor on Jost are the only real issues. If great harbor is full just go around the corner to Little harbor.

The only place I would add to what GeorgeC1 lists above is Anegada. Most of the year it's not a problem, but I have seen it fill up during some of the peak weeks. You would have an option to anchor there, depending on the draft of your boat.

Many of the anchorages have excellent holding for anchoring - except for Cooper, Great Harbour and the Bight (you can anchor there, but in 50 feet of water and most charter boats don't carry sufficient chain for that depth)

I've read that anchoring is not allowed anymore around Cooper. Can anyone verify this? And if I don't get a mooring bay in Manchioneel bay and it's 200 afternoon, what are my options? Thanks

Haulovers Bay is where you can anchor at Cooper, but Im leery of it as I have had too many bad nights of sleep at cooper on mooring balls. If you get shut out you either head to Peter Island, Brandywine Bay or Trellis/Marina Cay.
