For those of you who are on Jeff Berger's newsletter list, you might want to actually read it this week. THREE new developments in Cupecoy and FOUR in Simpson Bay, including the one to be built where Roxxy was. According to the newsletter, that one will be FOURTEEN stories high. Seriously???? And where are all these cars going to go?
The 3 in Cupecoy, two are down by Porto Cupecoy on the water. Is the third at the Starz Casino? Or the land across from the blue mall??! There has been yak for a few years but I think two have already broke ground. Hate the thought of the Starz casino hotel Project
I can't believe that the zoning board would allow a fourteen story building to be built in the flight path of the runway!!! Am I the only one thinking of the planes that hit the towers on 9-11??? Someone is getting paid off, because this whole thing is INSANE!!!
@Colour1 - no 14-story building will be built in the approach or departure path of PJIA. It's not a zoning question, but an ICAO one. If they just put up a building like that, the airport would lose its license - and that isn't going to happen regardless of who gets bribed...
Since the only published approach for PJIA is runway 010 it would be a departure obstacle. The only possible obstruction on departure would be a 14-story around the Carrefour area. And that is over a mile away and just under the IFR 40:1 rule. Buildings in Simpson Bay and Cupecoy are not even close to any flight path. And there's an even higher obstacle (the hill) in that area anyway. I think you actually are the only one thinking of 9-11 in this context. The twin towers weren't on any flight path...

Just imagine what Simpson Bay would look like if the airport wasn't there. High rise after high rise buildings. I am happier with a little airplane noise.
Without the airport there would be no tourism or a need for those high-rise's. Just cruise ship visitors to an island with a poor economy with nothing to offer except nice beaches.
A few photos from the last few days. New condo across from Catholic church in Simpson Bay, new bar near Mary’s Boon and construction across the channel from thePalms.
I entered an off grid challenge but failed in less than a month so here I am back on the internet. My feeling about SXM is the same. When hubby and I built our villa in 1990 there was no OBBR, no Marriott and Club Orient was a clothing optional resort we loved. Now we are older and selling our villa in Tamarind Hill. We still travel renting VRBO homes. Just rented a lake house on Lake George for Thanksgiving with the family it was perfect.
Yup at least one half of the island has been totally destroyed by what some on this board call inevitable progress but what is in fact rampant greed and corruption with no benefit whatsoever to the local population.
