Good day all!
I felt I would ask here innocently as I am an avid rental car user, but have noticed that lots of agencies add a significant deposit to a credit card upon the rental. I completely understand why some companies do this given the risk of theft or accidents on the island. I wanted to ask though if anyone would recommend any independent company that can rent a decent car without the need for a deposit? I found Dream Car Rental but wasnt sure if there were any other recommendations along with insurance ideas either bringing my own or using their offered CDW prices.
I hope this isn't asking alot and hopefully someone knows a good local business to support. I'm not looking for a luxury car for me and the family when we visit either. Just a good vehicle to get the three of us around here and there.
Thanks in advance Scott

Have most rental companies been saying they want a deposit? As far as I know, it would only be a hold on your card, not an actual charge. Unless you are running up against your credit line, it shouldn't be an issue. Lately we have been using AAA and as far as I know, they don't charge a deposit. At least, they don't to us.

Hertz doesn't charge a deposit. Just a hold on your CC which has never been a problem when I've rented from them. Check with your issuing CC to make sure they still offer the collision coverage as most CCs had discontinued that. Incidentally the liability is included in the Hertz quote.

We've always just had a hold on our CC.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with Hertz. I just assumed they too would out a hold on the card that would limit my spending too, but it looks like its no more than $200 as opposed to the exorbitant $800-1000 I'm seeing with others. Thanks!

We use Lesley at Kenny's car rental and he doesn't require a deposit.

Yes most do charge extra even though they aren't supposed to as it's supposed to be paid by rental company and not charged separately to the customer. Another reason I like to use Hertz. I don't like to deal with businesses that take advantage of customers not aware of the laws. Another example is the added TOT that Jimbo always put on the bill knowing it was not legally allowed. Rant over for now.
