Happy Veteran’s Day and Happy Sint Maarten / Saint Martin Day!
Overnight, it rained a lot and it continued well into the waking hours. During a break in the rain, John and I walked over to the Grand Case Pier. On the way we noticed quite a few people standing on the concrete bridge (near Korner), watching the water rushing through the channel into the sea. Needless to say, Grand Case Beach is close to swimming until further notice.
On the pier there was a fisherman and his beautiful dog. The fisherman proudy showed us his catch, that consisted of many smallish fish. There was another gentleman there throwing out fish chum into the water, but not many fish were biting. On the walk back, we stopped at the Chocolate Shop and bought several decadent homemade chocolates. They were so good!
Due to the inclement weather on both sides of the island, we hung around in the apartment and did some laundry. It’s not very exciting, but necessary.
Around noontime we drove over to Loterie Farm, one of my favorite lunch destinations. The Jungle Room is unique and quite lovely. The menu is somewhat limited, but that’s ok with us. Food orders consisted of 2 chicken wraps, a Tuna Poke Bowl and Ribs. The Ribs had a very good barbeque sauce on them - almost Asian inspired? All meals and the service were very good. The views from the restaurant are really lovely.
Knowing that is probably wasn’t going to be a great pool day, we decided to do a little sightseeing and bar hopping.
We drove through Terres Basses, stopping at Plum Bay. The beach is scenic and there was only one other couple there. The first drink stop was at Dany’s in Cupecoy, where we enjoyed two very good rum punches and a couple of beers. We watched jets and smaller planes fly by. There was one couple standing on the beach. There’s very little sand there, mostly large rocks.
Next stop was at Mary’s Boon, where the parking lot was crowded and almost full. We ordered a nice bottle of Rose and sat at the outdoor bar. The ocean wasn't too angry and there were about a dozen people in the water. It was such a nice way to spend the afternoon.
There was little traffic on the way back to Grand Case, but the amount of crazy bike riders was insane. They traveled in large groups, performing “pop a wheelies”. It was scary and not entertaining at all.
After a small dip in the pool, the guys drove to Cul de Sac to pick up pizza. Our first choice was Chez Enzo, but they are closed on Mondays. Second choice was Pepe Pizza. Both pizzas were thin crust and pretty good. It hit the spot.
We played 3 rounds of pitch, where the girls beat the guys 2-1.
