Do you have a rental car? There are many nice restaurants in Simpson Bay or Mayo but nothing I would recommend walking to. Maybe just a little more info like tastes, pricing, etc will elicit more responses.

Arriving from a cold climate, so looking for a welcoming Caribbean vibe for the first night, and with good food, not bar food. Will be using taxies the first night, then moving to a villa in Grand Case the next day. Grand Case we know well, but not familiar with the Simpson Bay options. Thanks

ROMA in Maho would be my choice. Best Italian on island.

Heading toward Mayo you could try Roma, Jax, Le Moulin Fou or a few others. Heading to Simpson Bay gives you greater variety. For a Caribbean vibe you could try the Greenhouse, Lee's Grill or Skipjack's.... The list runs quite long. Any that I've mentioned can be seen online along with their menus. If you need website links, just ask.

Mary's Boon's restaurant used to be pretty good. Haven't eaten there in few years, so maybe some else can comment. After traveling all day it might ber nice to just eat and relax where you are staying?

Since you're looking for something with a Caribbean vibe, I wouldn't choose anywhere in Maho. I haven't seen a lot of reviews of Karakter lately, but it's right next door to Mary's Boon, so you could walk there. And it's right on the beach.

We enjoyed the restaurant at Mary's Boon when we stayed there last year. Right on the beach with a sea breeze. We also enjoy going to Chesterfield's at the Marina... we typically end up there the first night we arrive.

Can I blame it on a stroke or old age? More likely it's really fat fingers, failure to proof read or complete exhaustion. I will endeavor to do better.

Can't think of many with authentic Caribbean vibe in Maho or Simpson Bay. Simpson has some great places but not the "vibe". Most of those places would require a drive. But as, you probably know, you will find that in Grand Case. Add Ti Coin Creole to your list in Grand Case. Restaurant family owned and recently reopened after storm damage serves authentic food.
The restaurant at Belair hotel Little Bay would require a drive but good food, feet in the sand.
I think you'd do better to just eat at Mary's Boone that first night. My opinion.
