I think someone may have touched on this a while back, but I figured I would just ask again. About how much time would it take to hike from Maho or Francis to Coral Bay? Assuming the short hike to Leinster and then the Johnny trail over?

Or, alternatively, how much time to reach the 'peak' and then to return back to boat?

It looks like there might be a more direct path if I just took the roads? Any comments appreciated.

You could do it from Francis, but not Maho. It's about two miles from Francis to the trail head for the Johnny Horn trail at Leinster. Then about two hours to hike the Johnny Horn from Leinster to Coral Bay. Once in Coral Bay, your options are to hike back or hitch hike. The bus does not go to the north shore. Taxis are non-existent in Coral Bay, but you could arrange a pickup ahead of time.

I don't remember it being 2 hours from Leinster to Coral Bay; it seemed shorter than that...But definitely there are no taxis in Coral Bay. I have been stuck there on at least two occasions and had to hitch hike... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

Nutmeg, we do the Brown Bay spur too on this hike. Some of the trail guides mention the rows of conch shells at the turn off, but the NPS folks removed those. Sure, you could power hike this trail, but the best views are behind you when you're hiking from Leinster to Coral Bay - right down the Drake Channel.

Since VITRAN got their new busses sure seems like they run more often. Maybe next time you can get a $1 ride

Well, you could get a ride to Cruz Bay, but the busses don't go down north shore road.
