We arrived Wednesday the 21st and I have been pretty lazy or maybe it’s just the island vibe. Looking back at our first trip to SXM, this one is very much low energy…perfect indication that we’re getting older! Anyways, here’s my report of our days on our favorite island so far:
As I stated on my previous post, we are staying in an apartment at Fryar’s Bay. So, needless to say, when we stay “home” we are at one of our favorite beaches with toes in the sand and a drink in hand. Thursday, our first full day, was one of those days. Breakfast and dinner at home with in between beach time.
Friday the 23rd, I woke up to not feeling well (stomach). Feeling nauseous at times, so we stayed in the apartment. We had a light breakfast and later in the afternoon went to Gutside Cafe and picked up dinner. We had a nice time with Lourdes and Richard upon hearing of my stomach problems gave me an “island remedy” drink! They are such great persons!
Saturday, feeling much better, had breakfast at home and off to Orient Beach. The beach had a little sargassum and some accumulated in front of the bars. Our intentions were to have a late lunch at Orange Fever. When we walked in it was 4pm and we learned that the kitchen closed at 4pm. We left and went on to Rancho del Sol. We had never been but we had driven by many times and always thought of trying it out. I had the roasted half chicken which was very good and Leo had a pizza which was not up to his standard. He tried my chicken and agreed it was good. Service was not good, pretty much lacking attention. Off we went to Super U for some grocery needs and home.
Sunday was a “home” day. Breakfast, beach, dinner, tv…just chill.
Monday, after breakfast, we headed to Mullet Bay, Leo’s favorite beach. Our intentions were to be there early but we got there well past noon. Gary took good care of us, as always! Spent a few hours in the beautiful water, more than planned, but it’s so hard to leave it, We went to Fat Tony Tony’s for a few beers and take home some dinner. Spent a great time with Martin the bartender and Cathy the other bartender which was there picking up a pizza for dinner and stayed to talk with us and share a couple drinks. There was also a gentleman at the bar speaking with us for a while and when leaving gave me his business card…turned out to be Leslie of Kenny’s Car Rental. Well, we got our food and left for home. Hubby got ribs and pulled pork and I had jerk chicken, both with rice and beans and cole slaw. While the food was good, it was not the best we ever had. We will be back for drinks but we probably will not eat there again.
Tuesday, we went to Phillipsburgh as the Icon of the Seas was in port and Leo wanted a look at it. We walked on the boardwalk, it was so hot!! We stopped for a beer and decided to walk back to our car via Front St (less sun). We went on to Chesterfields for lunch, sitting next to the water we enjoyed the nice breeze. I had the Mahi Mahi sandwich with fries and Leo had the burger. My sandwich was good, just what i needed. But Leo said his burger was just ok and the fries were good. The service was very good, nice and friendly. There were only a few tables with patrons, one next to us was with passengers from the ship. They were having a great time and enjoying the ship very much. We left and stopped at Carrefour to pick up some meats as we had not been particularly lucky at Super U with that. On to home and a Charcuterie board and wine for dinner.
I will try to be more active in my postings…but no promises!
