Staying in the orient village and after five days of eating French, we needed to change up the menu choices A quick two minute walk and we arrived at the rear of the village Le Piedmont, L'Atelier, Maison Mere and Le Petite Bistro all are closed for vacation
Open for business were Sao, Le Bouchon, La Favela and La Trattoria, not sure about McCools and a new "steak house"
last year wasn't impressed with Sao's sushi although the other dishes looked good , and we had a bad night of service La Favela was okay last year mostly off their specials board
Both La Trattoria and Sao were doing a brisk business
We spotted some menu items that looked appealing on the menu boards out front of La Trattoria and decided on Italian Service was friendly but less attention given to each table as they were hustling
Two petite bites of bruschetta was offered before appetizers arrived
My wife's calamari was large pieces of the tube with no bodies, lightly floured and cooked properly, excellent but wish there was just a bit more Off the specials board, I selected the tuna tar tar Italian style, while the tuna was fresh and a fair portion, not my favorite preparation although I did like it better when I dressed the underlying greens with oil and balsamic which mixed in with the tuna
looking for something not creamy or rich, my wife selected the tagliata, thin sliced beef served over an arugula salad It was presently nicely but the beef was cooked too rare for my wife's liking, it was graciously recooked and she enjoyed the tender, tasty meat once which quickly returned no picture as we forgot to take once replated
I was looking forward to the gnocchi tossed in a big parmesan wheel with truffle sauce, many restaurants do this tableside, but maybe too busy and too tight to do here I had imagined the gnocchi's in a creamy sauce with fresh shaved truffles for 36e, but was served in an extremely overpowering truffle cream sauce the gnocchi themselves were medium soft pillows and a fair portion I wrapped up half of the meal and thankfully the glass of chianti cut through some of the rich cream sauce
We omitted dessert, but enjoyed the strong complimentary shot of limoncello
There was a enjoyable entertainment in the center stage and the nightly weather remained pleasant, not hot or humid which we are accustomed to for this time of year
Got a busy day since we need to drop off luggage at RI that is not going to Saba tomorrow and check in at airport since our reservation number isn't being accepted Hopefully we can secretly meet a friend if even just briefly
We ate at La Trattoria two years ago and again this last May. First time was good, this last May wasn't up to our expectations. They weren't that busy and with reservations for outside dining they still didn't know where to seat us. Service was lacking and food just OK. Sorry i wasted that evening that included a long drive from Simpson Bay and back. Will not return.
