I am an early riser (3:30 today) so I was up at 5:00am. I hung around Horny Toad for a few hours, took a short beach walk and then headed to town. I parked in the free public lot and walked to Chesterfield's. Looking back, I should have driven to Chesterfield's and parked there as the walk in the heat was not pleasant. After a leisurely breakfast I made the rounds at Caribbean Gems, Diamonds and Designs and Sage Jewelers to visit long time acquaintances and have a few Heinekens. There was some jewelry in need of repair and cleaning so I wanted to get that taken care of. No ships and very slow in town. Many storefronts were either vacant, closed or under renovation. Caribbean Gems was operating out of the location nearest the port as the other location is under renovation. A brief shower in town brought on even more humidity.
A quick stop at Carrefour for minimal supplies, a stop at Reveil Martin to see Kereen (and a mimosa) and back to Horny Toad. The heat and travel day (Monday) took a toll so I showered and rested for a while. A quick stop at Lee's for HH and then off for a sunset cruise on No1SXM. Only 7 of us on the boat and nice wind made for a very pleasant sail. They have added some stadium-type seating on each side of the boat (4 on each side) which was nice. Light snacks are provided along with a selection of beverages. As it turns out CaribLee was on the boat but we did not connect. As I was departing, Mirian mentioned my name and CaribLee heard it and asked about me. I then had a PM detailing the situation. I wish I had known sooner. I highly recommend No1SXM as it is true sailing, not packed or loud and a fun time.
My dinner plans were cancelled as Junior, my 30+ year taxi friend, had been at the hospital during the day and did not feel like going out. I was done for the evening as the day and previous travel day caught up with me.
Today will be very laid back and not much going on other than hanging out here. I will hopefully meet up with Junior for dinner.
Our missing connections with JD yesterday is one of those small island stories. I have never met JD but we reached out recently and discussed our trying to get together while we are both on the island. I even mentioned this to my wife yesterday morning. And there we were, sailing on the same boat with only four others, and I didn't realize it was JD until he was being carried away from the boat. You can't make this stuff up. Nice to almost meet you JD. And thanks for the trip reports.
Meant to post this earlier. The No1SXM sail is advertised as a sunset sail. It did not disappoint. It even included a double rainbow. A nice evening and highly recommended.
