Our passports expire in November. As far as I know, we're not going anywhere we need it before then. I assume renewals are coming back pretty quickly these days? I think people were saying less than a month, without expediting? And not that it matters that much, but anyone know if we send it in now and the new ones get issued like next month, will the new date be 10 years from the OLD date, or 10 years from when it is approved this time?

Thanks for any info.

Expires 10 years from the issue date of the renewed passport.

OK, thanks. I guess it really doesn't matter that much, just curious.

We recently renewed our passports and it took approximately 4 weeks to receive the new ones. There is an expedited procedure for an extra fee.

OK, thanks. I thought people were saying around a month. We probably will just go ahead and send it in early.

Yes, 10 years from the issued date. I got mine back in less than two weeks.

Carol, I sent mine in July 3. It was due to expire in October. I believe they received it on 7/9. I paid extra to have it returned by priority mail (I think it was like $20 or so). My new passport issue date is 8/11/24 and expires 8/10/34. I got the new passport last week, so just over a month. My son’s fiancée renewed hers on line and got her new one in the mail in 10 days!

I contrast when you renew your Global Entry it adds on to your original expiration date. Go figure.

Yes expiration is 10 years from renewal date which sucks since some places won't let you in or out if you don't have 6 months left on your passport. Thus you'd have to renew before 10 years are up. So we are not really getting 10 years out of it, are we?

So there was a recent issue with this and Britons traveling in the EU. UK passports used to be allowed to carry over 9 months from a previous passport on renewal. But the global standard is that a passport must have been issued within 10 years. People were traveling with unexpired passports but were denied entry because the passport was older than 10 years.

I renewed my passport and applied for my daughters 1st passport this spring. It took 4 weeks. In fact, my daughter's passport arrived a week earlier. Go figure....

The great thing this go around is I did everything at the local post office. I set up an appointment on the State Dept passport portal. Then head down to the PO for pictures and document verification all at the same time. Very easy, and it seems just about every post office here in Madison, WI offers it. I did not have to go to the larger facility, as in the past.

Thanks for the info. I was planning on getting a picture at Walgreens and mailing in everything.
