Suggest you contact Wilfred Brooks, through the sponsors list here on TTOL. He has a nice van that will take care of you. Very careful driver, and a heck of a nice guy to boot. He can be contacted via email and by US phone number.

Hi there.
If a person wanted to rent a 7 seater van, in all your opinions what company would be the best to do so through. We have always contacted Kenny's and they arranged a van through a friend, but for this next trip, they are saying they cannot because they do not have a van?? Anyways, loved their service, but I guess we are on the hunt for a reputable rental company who have vans.....we were spoiled renting from Lesley,,,I am not sure what happened, but maybe his friend doesnt have a van anymore.??
Thanks in advance

Exclusive has some large vans in their fleet. https://www.exclusivecarrentalsxm.com/fleet.php

I would suggest considering getting two small cars instead of a large van though, as the latter will be more difficult to park and maneuver, and two cars may give you more flexibility.

I agree with John--two small cars will give you more flexibility and possibly even cost less.

I agree with the two car thing. Several years ago, a friend rented a van, which I had to drive some and it was not fun trying to park. In March 2023 the rental agency I used upgraded me to a Chevy Traverse (which I have at home), it was great for the extra room but trying to park it was a problem at some places, as in the St. Maarten Yacht Club.

If you are set on a van (or a Chevy Traverse), I would recommend Hardy's Car Rental. Hardy's Link The Traverse will seat 7 when using the 3rd row and 8 if it has a bench seat in the second row. It would be much easier than a van, IMHO.

Another here who, assuming you have multiple drivers, would opt for two smaller cars over one large van. In our many years of SXM trips we have found that rarely are all members of the group ready to go at the same time and/or all eager for the same destination. And add in the factor of cost it might just work out to cost less for two smaller cars over the one large one.

Respectfully,

pat

I don't think he/she wants to rent a van/car just have a driver to use for two days for their group.

You are correct with regard to the original post but as often happens, someone else asks a question and the discussion takes another course.

I was intending to reply to megamania, who was asking about renting a 7 seater van (although I didn't properly do the "reply" thing). The original question about using a driver with a van was already answered.

Hi there.
You know, I never thought of two smaller cars.....guess cause I am always the only one that wants to drive!. lol The rest would rather not. We have had a Toyota Sienna van and had pretty good luck,,,but I do agree, two smaller cars would be easier to park. I have sent an email to Hardy,,as it had been recommended to me. I just cannot believe how much the cost has gone up. Our last visit was March 2023. Any I have checked are minimum 300.00-350.00 U.S more than what I paid then. Wow.
Again, thanks to all that were good enough to answer me and for the suggestions....Always appreciated. smile

It depends on the season but rental prices are way up. Don't be afraid to negotiate.

Thanks for all of the suggestions for our transportation , here is what I have found . Any company that is quoting a eight person van , it is cheaper to buy a van when you get on the Island . The best bet is to rent two cars from Leslie Bruce even if they don't move out of their tracks for a week.

OK, I misunderstood your question--I thought you were wanting to rent a cab for just a couple of days. And yes, vans are ridiculously expensive to rent.

Thanks. I have sent an email to the owners of villa to see if it is possible to have two parking spaces, as opposed to one. We have been staying at the Sol y Mar and in the past only one parking space provided. From what I am finding it may well be cheaper to rent two smaller cars. Last quote I got for a van (Honda) with taxes and liability was 1404.00 u.s. Thats just a LOT of money , mind you it was for 9 days as opposed to 7. Than add the exchange to canadian dollars.....yikes, lol

That's a lot of money, yes. Didn't know there was a problem with parking. How many bedrooms? Do they use parking for the Greenhouse? It seems like they should be able to do something for you, the owners of the villa, that is.

Hi Carol
I havent heard back from IRE vacations yet. The parking provided in previous years was actually right directly across from greenhouse, had to drive up the hill and there was a lot there. However, it was full a lot of the time. Sometimes, that smaller parking lot just on left hand side of road, directly across from Buccaneer Beach Bar had a spot that was marked off. And to answer your question, there are 3 bedrooms,,,one of the room has two queen beds, so max capacity is 8 - We love it there and the location is soooo handy to everything. But, we still like to take some day trips around the island, then park it late afternoon, so I can have some "adult" beverages....lol

Yes--that is the designated parking for the Greenhouse. To me, for a rental with a capacity of 8, they should provide at least two parking spots.
