Yesterday spent the day at Club O. Saw a large excavator clearing brush and loading onto a dump truck by Papagayo. It is my understanding the entire property will be demolished and hauled away over the next two weeks. That’s all I know.
It seems like you don't even know that! You seem to be speculating based on a short observation and possibly some discussion with someone who also is not knowledgeable about the situation.
There is another thread on TTOL where this was discussed (to which I also replied). It was also posted on Facebook earlier this week.
The Copropriété de la Baie Orientale (commonly known as "Club Orient") now has a court-appointed Administrator who is tasked with getting the Copropriété back operating smoothly. He also has the authority and obligation to respond to formal requests and orders such as that from the Prefecture regarding cleaning up areas of the property that are deemed to be dangerous. It is clear to anyone who has been there or seen photographs that Papagayo is slowly falling into the water and the rubble from the nearby chalets is also dangerous to beachgoers, especially those who trespass on the property.
Club Orient is a French Copropriété that owns the land. The Administrator does not have the authority to sell the property but, aside from that, has fairly wide-ranging authority to meet his mandate.
Any official news about the site will be posted on the ClubOrient.com website and the corresponding Facebook group. Neither has been updated in over 3 years but the information there is still valid (as far as I could tell).
Are you feeling left out? Private Facebook groups allow people to request to join them. And I suspect many people on the SXM TTOL group may already be in the SXM Naturism group (or may want to be).

Not at all. Not everyone is on Facebook and even fewer are in private groups. Anyone can join but most cannot see this. No need for that attitude.
100% true that not everyone is on FB. I went on about 20 years ago at my son's urging. I have a few groups there and the largest, re: SXM, is private by intent (I don't want lurkers). It has over 40,000 people. Word gets around. TTOL is a very traditional discussion group and as far as I can see it works just fine.
Sad, but a good thing as it’s was a danger attracting danger. Hopefully the ocean/beach will reclaim that stretch. Same with the chalets. Hopefully this will lite a fire amongst those with money in the game to either rebuild or sell.
Let the taker comment, but I don’t think so. You can see the fence and the bldg in 1st picture is a chalet. The 2nd is a zoom in showing the flattened Papas. Still a lot of concrete foundation to deal with.
Sad, the restaurant one of the greatest locations on planet Earth
Also, look how much sand and land has been lost since 2017. Papa’s foundation is a concrete peninsula and the chalet gives a new meaning to waterfront.
Carol, the two pics are after Papagayo was demolished. Here are pics from before it was flattened. Added a third picture of the beach chalet from before it was removed.
The chalet closest to Papagayo (among the beach-side units) was owned by Fred and Shirley. Those readers who have been around for quite awhile will a recall a red-painted dory that was anchored just off shore at that position. Fred had built that himself. It was sort of a landmark. The boat was featured in many of the paintings that Mair Patterson would paint while sunning herself at the beach, and which she sold there and reproductions of which were also for sale at the Club O shop. I cannot remember which year it was she was told she could no longer sell her works on the beach and was so upset she left and has never returned as far as I know.
We remember Mair Patterson. We had the pleasure of meeting her one day while we were at Baie Rouge many years ago. She was a very talented and gifted artist. I know she loved the island and we think of her from time to time and hope she is well. We are heading down to the island next month and plan to visit the beach at Club O. Has the demolition work been completed? Are there any plans to rebuild? It would be a shame not to as it is such an iconic area. Thanks for any info everyone.
As of last Saturday, the entire Papagayo building was down and they were still working on loading the heap of metal and cement into dump trucks to haul away. It looks like they were starting to chip away at the rocks that surrounded the building. .
That news article is probably the most idiotic pice of discrimintation I have ever read. "just by looking at the way peoples private parts were sagging down it was obvious they exceeded the age limit (50)"
...and the nudity ban was because of "several heart attacks"?????
This has to be a joke article....if not SXM has degenerated severely
Thanks for the pic of Papagayo. That getty that was built from the Papagayo cement foundation caused all the beach erosion. The sooner it is all removed the better for the beach and shoreline.
