I just got a message that a fellow cruiser that I know was fatally shot yesterday in a robbery at a Cadisco; but I couldn't see a reference in the Daily Herald. Has anyone heard of this?

Zanshin--hopefully it isn't true. I know that the Daily Herald does not have a paper on Saturday (like my paper here at home). Best wishes.

I certainly hope it isn't, his wife is in Germany to give birth to their child; that would make it a triple tragedy.

Heard yesterday that Ana from the Driftwood was mugged the other day. She’s ok. Working yesterday.

Carol,
It took place in Saint Peter’s where she lives not at the Driftwood.
They took her car. She was unharmed and OK physically.
I was talking with her a short time ago.

Phil--thanks. I'm not sure I know where that is.

Zanshin--did you ever find out if it was your friend who was killed? I understand that it happened in Sandy Ground. Someplace to avoid, day or night.

Carol,
It is a district in the north central part of the Dutch side. If you are driving from Maho or Simpson Bay towards Philipsburg, you would take the north exit in the traffic circle by the Carrefour (Cay Hill) . It is up in between the hills. Does that help?

Up the hill at the round-a-bout from Mark's Place, as if you were going to Emilio's.

Every year the crime upticks when the island slows down. No work, no cruise ships like the winter months and the thugs start roaming looking for their next victim. Very sad. Be safe and be aware of your surroundings.

I don't think that is the case. Been crime all year long on this island. Sign of the times just like back home. Its not the season but world economy and no enforcement and punishment.

(Just arrived in St. Lucia)
Yes, it was my friend who was shot. There is a long article about it in German from his home city, but the Beacon hasn't reported on it.

What a terrible tragedy. I don't know what to say, especially knowing that his wife is about to give birth (or perhaps already has).

My deepest condolences.

There is no mention of this tragedy in the Daily Herald online edition on Tuesday. Why?

The story is in the full edition of the Daily Herald, but not the online edition. I really don't have any idea how they decide which stories they put in the online edition. BTW, there was no DH yesterday because of the island-wide blackout on Sunday. The full edition did not say much other than that a person was fatally shot in what appeared to be crossfire from other people. The story also reported that the victim's dog was left behind and there was a post online asking for someone to care for the dog. The story had no other details and no name of the victim.

No problem. As I said, I often scratch my head about which stories they put in the online version.
