I was going to leave St. Martin yesterday and sail to St. Lucia; but when I turned on the engine the main alternator did not work. I've now spent a day working on trying to remove the alternator and diagnose the problem and I think I've now found the culprit, the voltage regulator. But since the voltage regulator is for 28V I can't find it at the usual car parts stores here on the island. If I use the normal shipping method with the LCL shippers, it won't get here on time - unfortunately I need to catch a flight in St. Lucia because I have to pick up and deliver a boat for the Newport-Bermuda race.
I have found the regulator with next-day-shipping in the USA and if anyone here would be willing to bring the regulator it would solve a lot of my problems. The regulator is small, about the size of a small pad of Post-It notes and not much heavier...

Hello everyone - Carol just pointed out that I'd made a mistake in the thread title - I had meant "June 2nd", not July!!! With a whole month of time I wouldn't have been so stressed, since getting a package here takes about one week. On a side note, I wanted to send a package from here to the USA (a 18Lb box with my old Starlink) and FedEx wanted a cool US$418 in shipping as their cheapest and slowest option...

Try DHL for your Starlink. Might be a tad cheaper. We sent 50# boxes for $150

DHL was the same price. I've gotten local confirmation that this is what the pricing is; the only possibility is that FedEx does one day a week with half-price. When did you send this 50lb package for $150? Was it recently?
Edit: I just rechecked at DHL, they want US$435 for the 18lb shipment; 50lbs would be US$735

Buddy--I don't know if he contacted you, but he decided to just go ahead and head out without getting the part.

Sorry - I just logged in again. I have done additional testing and now believe that the rectifier is the problem, which is also not available on the island but there are no overnight-shopping options in the USA available; and I need to depart. @Buddyhog - thanks for the offer!!!
