Virtually all of us have heard negative accounts of interactions with BVI C&I. Yesterday my wife and I finalized obtaining a temporary import license (TIL) for our catamaran, S/V Ocean Song, and we had a great experience. We had originally planned to leave the BVI in mid-April. Under that timeline we did not need to obtain a TIL. However, due to the death of my Dad (93 years old, had a fantastic life) we had to fly out with little notice. It required us to make arrangements for Ocean Song to remain in the BVI for at least an additional 6 - 8 weeks with an approved boat watcher. Our new timeline did necessitate obtaining a TIL.

Upon contacting BVI customs I was directed to customs official Ralph Fonseca. Officer Fonseca could not have been more helpful or understanding. He was generous with both his time and guidance. We were allowed to leave the BVI without completing the process, but with the agreement it would be completed upon our return. Officer Fonseca updated us while we were back in the states. Once back in the BVI he allowed us a few days to get reorganized before we were required to complete the TIL process. We walked into the customs office on Monday, May 27th and all the paperwork was already completed. We literally walked in, Officer Fonseca was waiting for us, and we were out the door in minutes.

Officer Fonseca and Assistant Commissioner of Customs Gerald Fleming were both very helpful as was every staff member we encountered. BVI Customs made the entire process very simple and they were gracious in allowing us to leave the BVI while the process was pending. Their assistance and understanding are greatly appreciated!

This is wonderful to hear and thanks for sharing! It’s human nature we don’t share stories often enough about things that went well and people who handled things really well. Always nice to hear positive stories like this.

Thanks for the review. We often don't hear the good things C&I does.
