Have not been to SXM in years but I enjoyed walking the Salt Pond shoreline and casting to the baby Tarpon etc.
Does anyone know if the Tarpon are still available there... on any other spots to walk a shoreline and fish.
Thank you for any help.

Very good to hear about your long return trip , however the Salt Pond is not like what it used to be in the past . For Fishing you would have to visit either the Lagoon or by the bridge in Simpson Bay .

Thank you for your reply and the advice. When you say the Salt Pond is not the same... do you mean the fishing is worse or there was damage from hurricanes etc?

I remember talking to a group of gentlemen night fishing off Simpson Bay Beach several years ago.

When we stayed at Divi we saw fishermen on the rocks. In fact when I asked one man if they had caught anything he showed me a bucket full and offered me some which I declined.

I was going to say the same RonDon. One guy caught a nurse shark there.

Does one need a license to fish on SXM (either side of island)? Are there any size or species restrictions? Where can you get bait?

I have seen folks fly fishing on Kim Sha Beach from our condo at Simpson Bay Villas. One guy caught a decent sized tarpon and released it after taking photos and a scale or two.

TJTrippe this is old info but when I fished on SXM fishing from the shore required no license... however on the French side no fishing areas were very restricted so I stopped fishing there. Again old info but think it still holds true.
