We always bring our kids when we come sailing to the US/BVI. I often get a question concerning what two young girls might do on a sailing vacation. We always have good family time - no electronics and everyone is together in the same place at the same time. Something that doesn't happen very often anymore. The video attached is a collage of clips from multiple trips and follows activities of the two girls Lauren and Hannah. Lauren is from 8 to 11 and Hannah is 10 to 13 in the video. I hope you find it useful when talking to your own kids or at minimum it's just another dose of DIF. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KKLhEntagcEnjoy...

I have a 9yo son who goes with us every trip so I can relate. Loved the closing shot of the jump. We will be there in a month and you gave me ideas.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. We're bringing newbie nephews in July. They have a lot of questions.
Cheers, RickG

Had the older grandkids along a couple of years ago, ages 8 and 10. They loved everything about the trip and would go again in a heartbeat.
I let them help run the boat, steering, grinding a winch, playing with the chart-plotter, running the dingy. All under a watchful eye of course!

A while back (March 2013?) someone had produced a booklet for kids here. It was very good, telling them what to expect, things around a boat they should know, stuff about the various islands. Hopefully someone will read this reminder and find a link. It was very good and I even passed the link on to an adult newbie we we taking. Ideal for a nine year old.

If you go to the youtube link you should definitely change your settings to view at 720p. The default resolution looks like dog doo doo.

I believe Salica may have been referring to a book I put together in the spring of 2014. A link to dropbox, with word and pdf versions, is in my July 22, 2014 post "The BVI And (Grand)kids."

Thanks for sharing! We're sailing with our 11 year old daughter (for the first time) and her good friend next month for 10 days. They don't have a clue what an amazing experience this is going to be!

Thanks for the reminder, aarpskier. I remember seeing your post last May. Unfortunately, the dropbox link no longer works. Any chance you could re-post?
We will be taking my niece and nephews (aged 3, 5, 7 and 9) on their first bareboat trip next month. This would be a great resource for them!

That's a great guide for newcomers to a boat! Just sent it off to our crew. Thanks! Julie
