It's always good to see old pictures or videos. Our first time was 1991 on a cruise and they stayed over in 1993, my how things have changed. Thanks.

That brings back memories of my first time on the Island with my first wife in 1988 or so as well. Eating at La Vie en Rose was one of the highlights of that trip. We stayed on the Dutch side but ate on the French side a lot.
Did not return for 20 or so years, and then returned with my 2nd wife, and we went once a year for about 10 years, our last trip in 2016. And I return in 10 days with a woman who has never been anywhere in the Caribbean.

Yes. Getting from point A to point B was a lot quicker and easier.

I wonder if "scooters" were driving down the middle of the road back then?

We used to rent scooters/mopeds back in the 80’s and ride them all the way to Marigot from Mullet Bay. That dirt road!! Ugh just awful! Hardly no one on the roads back then through the low lands!!!

Wow, thanks for sharing. We first went in 1992 so lots of familiar sights. I can just smell that leaded gas now, too! Memories...

wow, 1988 was my first trip down there, just after my 16th birthday. I was kind of waiting to see myself in your video, great memories. I actually won the trip from Armstrong Flooring for selling so much of their products, stayed at the Maho Resort. My first fancy dinner was at "The Frigate" in the middle of the golf course, fist time I ever had to order a baked potato separately, lol. I remember it well. It's amazing how much changed over the years. I do remember that dirt road, too funny. Love at first sight, went back 2 years later, again on Armstrong's dime. Had my 18th birthday down there. I remember going to Cheri's that night, they had recently just opened. The General sang me happy birthday, then went over to the casino. good times. Brought my girlfriend down in 1995, had a little "down on one knee" chat on Maho beach in front of the Hotel, left with a fiancé. Wife and I honeymooned there 2 years later. 30+ years, 30+ trips later, all great memories. Three years away from retirement, then that will be our winter home. We can't wait.

Here's a very short clip showing the area across from Royal Islander, before LaTerasse was built and the roundabout. I think it was the early 90's. https://youtu.be/Q-veZYbp-Gc

From what I saw while buzzing through the marina's on my Rhino Safari rider. Just like the wrecked boats, they put them on a barge and take them to another island where they sold for scrap.

Your videos bring back memories of some very dear times on SXM. Our first visit was in 1973and we’ve been back every year since. The island sure has changed, almost to the point of being unrecognizable. Did someone say traffic? New buildings? More high rises? In any event, thank you for sharing them..it was a treat to go back in time and note all the numerous changes. 🙂🙂
Respectfully,
pat

Thanks for this. As said by others, it brings back memories.
I don't have video but some old photos from the late 70's and 80's I'll figure out how to post them here.
