Thursday, April 11 was not the best beach day but we made the best of it. Cloud cover throughout the day with a stiff breeze, heavy surf did not make for a good tanning or swimming day. We did however get on the beach in between sprinkles that were on and off all day in Beacon Hill.

David went to Maho Market in the morning for coffee and a light breakfast for us to eat at home. A chocolate croissant for him and a Johnny Cake with Gouda for me. Yesterday evening I asked when the hot food was put out in the buffet bar. Johnny cakes are available at the deli counter in back of store. The Johnny cake was a bit greasy and dense, not one of the better ones I’ve had on the island.

An enjoyable dining experience at Roma’s made up for the lackluster breakfast and no lunch. We had a cocktail at the bar before we sat for dinner during Happy Hour. Fredo one of the bartenders makes an excellent extra dry vodka martini straight up with olives. I had it with Belvedere vodka, it was smooth..

We shared the Prosciutto di Parma with fig and parmigiano appetizer. Nice shaved pieces of parm with arugula. The waitress added more grated cheese with fresh cracked pepper at our request. Veal Ossco Bucco with saffron risotto for David and I ate the Ultimate Chicken Parmigiana with penne, Pomodoro & basil tomato sauce. The Ultimate option adds arugula, parm ham, parm shavings and balsamic. The breaded cutlet was large and cooked perfectly. Both our meals were tasty and hearty.

A perfect ending to a not so weather perfect day.

I meant to remove a sentence before posting as it relates to self serve hot food at Maho Market. We have been there twice before 8 am and neither time was there food at the buffet. When I asked the cashier I didn’t receive a definitive answer. I recall breakfast options, eggs, sausage, etc. which is what we wanted.

Looks so good. On our list….

Yesterday was one day we should have stayed in, but were trying to get this vacation started. After pulling in to Friars we went on to Divi,

It was not the best decision LOL.
My sandwich and our umbrella!!

Just an off day.

Louise--If you haven't left already, that demonstration is supposed to be at the Old House today, according to Elaine.

Louise--not sure what time they start serving there, but there is a hot food bar at Market Garden also.

I've seen a lot of locals stopping in at that food bar at Market Garden.. I have purchased premade baguette sandwiches there in the past. Very good.

We use a SHIBUMI now instead of umbrellas. Very lightweight and can be put in luggage for flights or on cruise ships for beach trips.

It’s a loser on a zero wind day, but that has only happened once. Usually at a beach like Orient, this would never fail. We have had too many umbrellas take off.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the osso bucco at Roma. I guess when we were there it was an off night. Led me to say the Rosso buck at Sal e Pepe was far better.

We won’t give them our business. We’ve eaten dinner three times with very poor service.

Thanks Carol I didn’t see this, but we had no problem going over the causeway through Marigot and the outskirts of Grand Case to Orient with no problems getting back. Thank you for letting me know

Living in North Carolina, where the Shibumi originated, and where they are the predominant beach shade, I can tell you that the flapping noise that they make is just awful! We have a Cool Cabana here , and always cringe when a Shibumi sets up near us.

Louise--apparently it didn't happen, but that route wouldn't have put you past the Old House anyway.
