I know there has been a previous thread for vacation music playlists but thought I would start another. Hoping to get some great picks to add to my playlist and in turn yours. Just posting a few, please chime, in with your faves. In no particular order and I left lots out, but here we go.
“Watermelon Man” – love the story with Herbie Hancock telling Elvis Costello the genesis of the song. However must say I like the Mongo Santamaria version better.
Check out other Mongo songs – Afo Blue, Sofrito et al. He even has a Geen Onions version.
“Sunday Shining” – Finley Quaye – a Scottish reggae singer – a somewhat troubled life, but I like the song and his sound
Blondie – “The Tide is high”. It’s a cover of a song – same name by the Paragons- check out the original for fun.
Note I like cover remakes – Amy’s Valerie is a cover of the Zutons original – kinda of like the Zutons version
Anything Jimmy Cliff – best for me is “You can get it if you really want” - but you must try, try and try, try and try! Love the horn section.
Toots and the Maytalls – for me this is reggae. Fave is “54-46 That’s my number” . To me, they created the term reggae with their late 60’s song – “Do the Reggay” .
Skatalites – For Death in paradise fans, the opening song is “You’re Wondering Now” – big ska song from the Skatalites – great beat and horns. Early influence for Bob M.
Harry Belafonte – “Jump in the Line” – Somebody help me…..!
Dave and Ansel Collins -: Double Barrel” – I am the Magnificent…..
Last for the moment – anything Justin Hinds – I’ll pick “Let’s Rock”
Thanks J&B

Love some of your choices. My vacation playlist leans toward 50’s rock, folk, and country. Takes me back to a feel good place. Guess I may have given up my age bracket 😁

Hi. I fixed the typo in your heading.
Jimmy Buffet would have to be on mine.

These are some good ones. I would add in Three Little Birds & Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley, and any number of songs by the Elovators, particularly Criminal and Endless Summer.

RIP Jimmy..........Mega fan and listening to him always makes me smile......... I listen to his music on the radio all the time. Like his music but not his singing voice. Has a hard tome carrying a tune especially with slow melodies.

Jimmy would never have been an opera singer, that's for sure. I prefer his songs as originally recorded, as compared to the 'in concert' ones, as he does have a tendency to 'wander' in his live recorded concerts. But it's part of his charm.

I'm really going to show my age with this list. I've had these songs on a mixed tape, a CD, whatever was needed to play them while away from home, for years now.
“Unchained Melody”, The Righteous Brothers “Peaceful”, Helen Reddy “The Midnight Hour”, Wilson Pickett “Dock of the Bay”, Otis Redding “Lay Down Sally”, Eric Clapton “Don’t Leave Me This Way”, Thelma Houston “Homeward Bound”, Simon and Garfunkle “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”, Dusty Springfield “You, Me and Mexico”, Edward Bear “Evergreen”, Barbra Streisand “Mother and Child Reunion”, Paul Simon

Great thread. Going through my phone playlist. Never get it done with albums and CD's. Too many. Here are my personal favorites for those days on Orient or any other place on the island. Pretty eclectic I think. Jimmy Buffet's two classics, Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude and Fins. Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues as well as Lovely to See You for all those friends we meet up with on the island since our last visit. Orinoco Flow and Storms in Africa by Enya when vegging out at the beach along with Grand Funk's I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home. Everyday People by Sly and the Family Stone and Make Your Own Kind of Music by the late, great Mama Cass. These two very special for those of you who still frequent the Club Orient part of the beach. Words are true. Gonna give a listen to those who recommended their favorites to perhaps become mine as well. Thanks for sharing everyone.

I have Luciano the Jamaican Artist And Bossa and Marley in my catalogue. Not only do I listen when on the island but also when I back in the dreary weather in the Northeast, US
