Message from the Resort re temporary A/C disruption. April 8th, 2024.
We regret to inform you that our resort is currently experiencing a temporary disruption to our air conditioning services due to recent power failures on the island that resulted in chiller equipment failure.
Despite our best efforts to mitigate the impact of these power fluctuations with backup generators (fully functional), both of our chiller plants at La Plage sustained major damages to the compressors. This has affected some important equipment, leading to the interruption of our air conditioning services. We are currently running the building on half capacity of compressors.
Please rest assured that we are actively working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we are providing fans in guest rooms to help alleviate the discomfort caused by the lack of air conditioning.
We are in communication with our service provider, JCI, to expedite the delivery of the necessary parts via air shipment to repair the damaged equipment and restore our air conditioning services to full functionality.
We are sorry for the inconveniences. All resources are exhausted to airfreight the compressors to restore full AC services. Will keep everyone informed as soon as JCI confirm delivery to FL today.
We know how important cooling is sufficiently is in St. Maarten. We are doing our utmost to restore full cooling to La Plage

GEBE strikes again!! I saw where they were doing rolling blackouts over the weekend. I suspect RI wasn't the only place to have damage because of this BS. Feel sorry for those at RI, but if it were me, I'd try to find someplace else to stay. I need my a/c, especially at night.

FYI, Royal Islander La Terrasse is operating at full AC service since it is on a separate chiller system. The issue is currently at La Plage only.

It will be fixed real soon. The folks at RI work incredably fast. Don't forget, Mr Spadarro lives at the Royal Islander!!!

Ed--I'm not sure how fast they can work in this situation. Could be out of their control. And I highly doubt Mr. Spadarro is there at the moment.

Saro, the son of Saro (Rosario) Spadaro lives where his dad lived? Am I correct that Rosario passed away and now son Saro runs it? Hard to keep up with the island "bosses", but a lot more interesting than the Kardashians. Does Mrs still live at La Terrasse? Is the Mrs, Saro's mom? What all does the "Turk" own? Who is the other "boss"? I think there are three, or are there more?

I should have grilled The Queen on all this when I had dinner with her in March, damn, I feel so behind on my island drama. They need a Island Reality Show so we can keep up. Who should we get to host the show?

Mr Spadarro senior is still very much alive. In fact, i played black jack with him quite a few times in the last couple of weeks. He still lives in the penthouse with an aid, and uses a scooter to get around. He still is in the casino every night, but he has turned over the reigns of the operation to his son, which i heard lives in the big unit underneath his.

Rosario Spadaro resides in six floor penthouse at La Terrasse.
He still lives there and has an assistant.
He comes around the pool often with her and rides his Scooter for mobility.
His son, Saro Has been president and CEO for 20 years.

Carol, there is no change with La Plage and the AC today.

They are going to require parts from Florida once they are available to be shipped.

Phil--OK, thanks. Do you know, are they switching people from La Plage to La Terrasse at all, or is La Terrasse full?

There is very little vacancy at La Terrasse.
More than half the 76 units are privately owned condominiums.
There are several timeshare units there, as well as some units that are rented up by the Maho Group still.
But there It’s only a handful of units at La Terrasse that may be vacant and useable for transfer. The AC issue at La Plage will not have a short term solution.

This was posted yesterday. Whether it was back up and running late yesterday is yet to be seen. Hopefully they got it back up.

A further update from the Resort April 12th 2024.
"Dear valued members, guests and fans.
You may have noticed a recent increase in negative comments regarding our cooling and hot water systems, and we would like to provide some clarification.
During the week of April 8, we encountered a significant disruption in both our cooling and hot water systems. Our team promptly sourced the necessary repair parts, which arrived on April 11th and have been successfully installed. We are pleased to inform you that the hot water system has been fully restored, and we anticipate the complete restoration of our cooling system by the end of the day on April 12.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this emergency maintenance period and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
We look forward to welcoming you and thank you for your continued support.

I was talking to RI administration today. They received the required parts quicker than expected. The Installation was done Thursday night into Friday morning. The AC Chiller was put back into service yesterday night and it takes about 24 hours to have it running at full capacity.

I can also confirm that Royal Islander administration contacted owners at La Terrasse who had vacancy. Some guests were transferred over to La Terrasse . They were guests who were more affected due to their health issues.
