In the Air Canada app they are advising passengers to be at Sxm 4 hours prior to departure. This has got to be a new record. I can't imagine the departures are that disorganized.
Anyone care to give a recent account of their time spent getting through security?

Not Air Canada but Delta advised the same time frame last week. I departed on a Thursday on Delta and from entering the airport to arriving at gate A1, it was less than 30 minutes. I allowed 2.5 hours and that was way more than enough but it will depend on the day of the week, the airline check-in process and if the new technology at the airport is working properly.

Thanks for the info.
Leaving tomorrow on Sunday. Carry on only. Can't imagine it would take anywhere close to 4 hours to get to the gate.

FWIW we left on Wednesday on a flight scheduled to depart at 12:25pm, it was 50 minutes from checking out of the hotel (in Grand Case) to being at the gate, about 25 minutes of that was in the airport. And then the flight was an hour late pushing back from the gate (time to spare, go by air as they say...) Dave.

Last Sat. was there 2 hours ahead for Delta flight and made it though custons in 30 min. As I've said before, if everyone gets there 4 hours before their flight it's just a traffic jam.

Most of the airlines are not open until at least three hours prior to your flight.

To be correct, you go through customs and immigration when entering, not leaving. Security, passport control, etc. is when leaving.

We were 3 hours early today for AA. We were able to check in but they would not take our checked bags!! Got boarding passes and had bags tagged. Had to come back an hour later to drop off. Took about 20 minutes once we went up the escalator to security. Incredibly long lines for food. Lots of choices for duty free booze & cigs!! LOL

Yesterday, we left out unit at Simpson Bay Resort at 10am. There was no one in line at the United desk so check-in was fast and efficient. Breezed through the exit process and at our gate at 10:30 for our 1:30 flight.

I recently flew out of SXM and found the security process to be quite smooth, definitely not needing four hours. It could be worth checking the latest updates directly with Air Canada. You can reach out to them using the air canada phone number for the most accurate information. In my experience, two to three hours before departure is usually sufficient.
