Anyone on island that can confirm they are actually open? And they will never get those kind of prices. For that kind of money one can book La Samanna and have money left over!
When we had our Friday March 1 flight delayed until Saturday, we took a cab back to OBBR. There was a couple sitting next to me that were staying at the Marriott for 2 nights before going to Anguilla for a few days, so yes they are open. There were also 2 women who had been working there for a week arranging artwork who were going back just for the night. They had been sampling the food all week and said it was amazing. As for the picture, it looks to me to be a very old picture of the south end of Dawn Beach.
It s definitely open and gorgeous beyond...and quite busy...but the parking structure is full of construction material, boxes, possibly furniture but it seems to be close to full recovery. It s far too remote for us, but we love the goats roaming the area and a ride to see that side of the island...for the $, Morgan is just as beautiful and way more accessible, but I m sure the issues because of the dirty deeds of timesharing mishandling will never make it an island fav. Took a pic, wish I could figure how to post it.
As nice as the Morgan is and close to a lot of things to do. It doesn't have a beach, where as JW has as you know has Dawn beach! We stayed there "Westin" many times with all property and all that it offered was five stars all the way!! Yes, staying there is very different vibe then anywhere else on the island! No, I couldn't stay there the entire vacation! We only stayed there for 4-5 days before checking in to BSV!!! It's definitely that high-end resort feel, if that is your liking!!
One more thing about the old Westin, it had a casino for night time entertainment...that s not there now and I certainly would not want to venture out on that road going in at night....and no beach at Morgan, but an incredible pool and Sunset Beach is close if you don t mind being in the masses...and sand pitted lol.
There's something about the number of casinos permitted; I remember that being discussed when a casino opened a while back, and it was one too many. Perhaps when the Westin closed, they didn't allow a casino for the Marriott. Just speculating; I have absolutely no knowledge of the reason.
I know there are a limited number of casinos on the island. They definitely did have a permit for one there before. Perhaps the answer is that they sold the license when the facility was closed for so long after Irma.
