Tuesday we intended to spend at La Playa but the water was so rough that even my husband wasn’t going to get in it.
We knew that Grand Case beach had been closed for swimming but were told that would be lifted in a day or two, so decided to check it out. We ended up being the first or second ones at Tropics down near Frenchy’s. Chairs were cheap enough to justify a few hours to see how the waves were. Plenty of people in the water along the length of the beach. Tropics is not fancy and by the time we left, the chairs were packed way too close together for my usual preference, but the beach service was excellent and we were happy to have some time in the water. After we’d had our fill we walked the beach back to the car, stopping for lunch at the LoLo’s for crab backs, fried plaintain, and ti punch. Along the way admired the refurbished Jolie Hotel where we spent our honeymoon pre Irma. It looks great. Mourned the section of the Love hotel where we first fell in love with Grand Case sunsets. It was a nice day on one of our favorite beaches.

Dinner was excellent at L’Petit in Orient Village. Burgers with foi gras, great fries, a good negroni. I’ll attach the specials. This place was great and we would do it again. We ended up on L’Atelier’s patio for a night cap.

Sounds like a great day. Might need to try toe burger with foie gras next visit. You might want to try Maison Mere for a nightcap. Mark makes excellent drinks and is quite personable. Tell him that Bob and Sandy said hello if you stop bye.

They did a fantastic job restoring Joliet Beach Hotel, we stayed prior to Irma and once after - though the noise from Rainbow was so overbearing and constant in 2022 that we would not go back or recommend it.

The Rainbow noise and the lack of parking are the current two turn-offs for us as well. Didn’t mind it in my early 30s but at the ripe old age of 40 I find the two cumbersome if not downright annoying.

Yes, Le Testavan never came back after Irma. I miss that restaurant so much. Michael and I LOVED it there. It was our first restaurant to try in Grand Case.

Tastevin was our stop upon arrival every year for escargot, french bread and I bottle of wine lunch . We would say, "now we've arrived!" miss it. Did you know L'auberge Gormand and Tastevin were owned by same couple. Then they divorced and wife got Tastevin and hubby kept Auberge. I think both have since passed away .

Last year we celebrated our 43 rd wedding anniversary at L'Auberge since we'd dine there on our honeymoon. Even now that it has new owners they laughed with us saying we must have been the first customers since that was the year the place opened. Took us to the back to see old photos . So free drinks and dessert and we all celebrated.

L'Auberge is still owned by Pascal. We were there for his opening night in October. He was not there last year as he was in France with his wife who was ill and she just passed away a few months ago. He had a friend of his running the restaurant last year and he is still very much alive.
