So this is our first time staying in Orient and we’re really enjoying it so far. I can absolutely see how people come to the island and only stay here - there’s everything you need in walking distance. However, we are getting the itch to get out of the bubble and visit some of the rest of SXM we love, and that will come tomorrow.

Last night after checking into our Villa, we hoofed it down to Yellow Sub. I’ve noticed that most people are pretty ambivalent about this place, but it was a fun and easy first night dinner. After a weird travel day, we loved having a casual option and really enjoyed the French Kareoke. My Thai tuna tartare was fantastic and the double - fried fries were great. The roast chicken with Creole sauce was a hit as well. Service was fine at dinner, though I would note service late afternoon today when stopping in for just a drink was quite bad.

Today was an Orange Fever day which was lovely as always. Last year, JC was wearing a TN Vols shirt someone had given him, so this year we brought him a Vols tee and a Pom Pom and some Vols orange sunglasses. He shook the Pom and shared rum shots with us. Such a delightful guy.

On the way to the villa we stopped in Bona Mama in the first little strip mall in Orient. Their pizza guy doesn’t get in until 4, but we placed a takeout order for later in the evening.

After some pool time we had happy hour at La Playa. They make the best espresso martinis with freshly brewed espresso shots. It’s a work of art.

Picked up some really good charcuterie from On Dirait Le Sud next door to Bona Mama, along with some homemade meatballs, marinara , and focaccia. We tried a truffle Brie that was ridiculously good. We had an excellent spread back at the villa along with some old fashioneds and cannolis from ODLS.

All in all a great day and so happy to be here, as our pet sitter informs it’s still 15 degrees at home!

Very cool! We have friends (from here at Cypress Cove), Mike and Joyce, who also are staying in the village, also arrived yesterday and probably ate at Yellow Sub as well! They are both fairly trim, he is tall with a goatee. Very nice folks, say hi if you run across them. They should be on Club O beach during the day.

I am really enjoying your trip reports as I’m seriously considering staying in the Orient Bay area versus Grand Case on our next trip.

The convenience of walking to restaurants for dinner is a big plus for us.

That charcuterie board looks amazing!

We also fell in love with the truffle Brie at ODLS! The wife actually makes it in house.
Glad to hear that yellow sub worked for you. We may give it a try in April.

We’ve really enjoyed the walkability. In previous day trips, I really had no concept of how much there is to offer in terms of restaurants and retail and services.

Had hoped to drive to Grand Case today for the day but I’ve been told they closed the beach for bacteria? No idea if that’s true.

I agree that staying in Orient Bay it's all we need and we enjoy Bona Momma for pizza. On Dirait Le Sud is loaded with great Italian specialties. We enjoy Yellow Sub for a quick meal anytime they have a nice breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Another plus is their music in the evenings the guys playing Reggae on Wednesday is our favorite but Thursday and Friday groups are very good too. An added bonus for us old folks is that its done at 11 so not to far past our bedtime. Now that most everything is up and running the beach was very busy on Sunday more so than pre Irma Carol I'm slugging along as best as I can one week in BTW its hot here

All that food looks delicious! Do the double fried fries come that way, or did you request? I usually ask for my fries "extra crispy."

Pony, we’re honestly just deducing based on the texture that they are double fried. They are very good. Had ‘em twice now.
