LinkThe good news is that the new currency will remain pegged to the US Dollar, so that it will really have no effect on the price of items for US citizens. As before, virtually all US citizens will just pay with Dollars.

Honestly, would have been nice if they had made the Naf/Cg exchange rate 1.79:1 so that 1Gg == $1 since its pegged and everyone just uses dollars anyway. Would have made it a little easier when shopping on the Dutch side!

I think the point is that the new currency is on par with the old NAF.

Oh good! The change in date gives those with a suitcase full of of NAF and hidden under the bed more time. Shame on them for not having already converted the NAF to a smaller suitcase full of USD.

Bahston--I presume your note was intended in jest, but the original story said that folks could exchange monies for thirty years..

Right - but they had a chance to make the new currency equal to the currency it is actually pegged to, and they didn't. All they had to do is say "we will exchange 1 Cg for every 1.79 Naf you have." It's all the same in the end, and would make transacting between $$ and Cg trivially easy forever, whereas the exchange between Cg and Naf only happens once.

Lucky--I guess I'm out of my league, as I don't understand the point. If they wanted to actually use the dollar as their currency, it would be easier to just use the dollar as the official currency, I think. Maybe. But they apparently don't want to.

Carol - Who knows why they do anything? Doesn't really matter, as everything will eventually be priced in Bitcoin anyway!
