We started out at the Dinghy's Beach Bar around 11 am. Went in and had a drink and purchased a few T shirts and asked if we could leave the car there and go for a beach walk, then come back for Taco Tuesday. The friendly staff said not a problem and they kept our shirts at the bar for us. Three hours later, we were back for tacos, $3 for beef or chicken, and $5 for fish or steak. We had 2 beef, and 1 chicken and 1 fish and they were good. There were around 50 people inside and out on the beach chairs and the owner told us that he is happy with the start up. He said that there would be live music Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This Friday it will be a jazz guitarist and Saturday Alfredo would be playing and Sunday I forgot who was playing. We made reservations for Saturday as we are big fans Alfredo and he is playing from 4 to 7. There is plenty of parking here which is a bonus. Further down the beach the work crew at Karakters were busy but I'm sure it will not be done by Dec 15th. I have heard that the previous owner, Mark, is not involved but did see him up in the cabana area meeting with a few people. If he wasn't busy, I would have talked to him about what is going on. When we literally ran out of beach to walk, there was a wooden ramp up to the Secret Seafood Restaurant. The bottom of the ramp is wet from the waves and is very very slippery. Not a good idea in my opinion. The kitchen wasn't open when we got there, but the owner served us drinks. The menu looks good, and will try to get there for dinner and there is a parking lot directly across the road. Because we had a late lunch, we thought we would just drive down to Zee Best Bakery and pick up a sandwich for dinner later. Well, we didn't even get to the causeway and were parked on the road, so we turned around and picked up a baguette from the Maho Market and had a charcuterie dinner instead. Finished the day at the pool bar at La Terrasse with our new friend Dr Phil and watched the sunset.
I have mnade a similar walk, either from Horny Toad to the bridge or Royal Palm to the BSV area. A long walk for sure and many times there is little to no beach the closer you get to the bridge. SOUnds like things are going good for you guys. enjoy!
Does sound like a great day and walk, we do that every trip. Pics were definitely interesting and a few a little concerning. I to wonder what is really going on at Karakter and would be surprised if the former owner is not involved is some way but for whatever reason says they are not. The building on the beach is surprising as I heard the gov was not allowing it no permits and nature foundation not happy about the obvious encroachment onto the gov beach and the beach is pretty small there already. And the picture of the deck over the rocks with the pipes running over them hopefully is not at Karakter or drained properly. To many issues with proper sewage handling and they seem to be known to do whatever whenever. Admitted just hearsay. It is a lovely beach, hopefully the cars and loud noise does not cause a bigger problem. IMO the gov need to protect the island and environment better. Definitely will go take a look next time we are there.
The picture with the pipes are from the Secret Seafood Restaurant and I hope they are for the lobster tank. The washrooms are on the other side of the property and closer to the road.
Jaybird they are supposed to be open for lunch but when we were there at 12:30 there was no cook in the kitchen. So I would call before you go for lunch. It's probably just growing pains for a new business and there were no other people there when we were there.
