I seem to hear bad news on AA very often so I would like to report a pleasant experience. We have reservations for travel December 2nd, a Saturday. AA changed the times of our original booking making us leave earlier arrive later. Arrival went from 2:10 to 3:05 which any regular SXM traveler knows puts us behind the Air France flight all thing being on time.
We bought non refundable tickets but I still made the call and to my surprise they changed us to go through Miami and arrive at 2:14. No guarantee of being in front of Air France but unexpected service from AA.
Also our travel with AA in March had RT tickets for $750 when they have been in the $1000 plus range this year.

Glad they were able to accommodate you. I'm not sure whether the three flights a day from Miami has kicked in yet, but if so, those flights probably are less crowded than the others anyway. Hopefully arrivals will be going more smoothly by then.

Nice that AA worked with you - I’ve always found them to be agreeable in that respect and amenable to helping when possible. Just wish they’d go back to nonstops to SXM from JFK.
My only hope for you is you won’t have issues in Miami. Will keep my fingers crossed it all works out.
Respectfully,
pat

non-refundable does not mean non-changeable...AA actually allows changes on most tickets (all, except Basic Economy) with no fees...you can even make the changes yourself online...but you normally have to pay the difference in fare price, if any...so if at the time of the switch the flights you switched to were selling for more than those on your original itinerary, you really did get good service from AA...and if the new fare is less than you paid, you're eligible for a trip credit
