We are planning a trip to Virgin Gorda in a few weeks. since our flight arrives mid afternoon (Sunday) and we figure that we will stay in Tortola the first night and then travel on to VG the next day. If we catch the 5:30 ferry from Charlotte Amalie, should we have any concern about being to Road Town in time to get through customs, which closes at 7:00?

If the ferry runs, customs will be open.

Thanks for the info. One other question: Is it necessary to make ferry reservations? Our flight is scheduled to get in at 2:48. If I buy tickets for the 5:30 departure in advance we will be sure to have seats. However, that locks us in to that time and I am wondering if we get our bags quickly we could possibly make the 4:00 ferry.

Don't buy advance tickets. No need anymore.

We go down 4 to 5 times a year. I won’t gamble on a ferry leaving 1 hour 15 minutes after landing. We have run into baggage taking up to 30 minutes. We are going down in 2 weeks. Currently (?) our flight lands at 2:38. To lower the stress, we have prepaid tickets for 5:30, we will enjoy a few drinks and food at the ferry, waiting. For me, nice to have all the bases covered with no surprises.

I agree. I prefer minimal stress when on vacation.

Thanks so much for the input. Going the stress-free route makes a lot of sense.
