Monday night we ate at the Morgan Resort. With rain on and off we didn’t want to drive far. Valet parked which was convenient. We drove to covered entrance of hotel where valet returned car without us having to wait. He saw us leaving restaurant so got our car.
Past the lobby through a set of glass doors is the first dining room which is air conditioned. The next set of doors opens to their open air dining patio with a permanent roof structure. Last year we went several times where we ate outdoors and it was completely open on all sides. Last night they had wind barriers that worked well.
Dinner will get a mix review. The arugula, poached pear with Roquefort and candied nuts was just ok. The dressing wilted the arugula so once I was done with the toppings the salad wasn’t appealing.
David’s entree was the seafood paella served with shrimp, scallops, mussels and small clams with chorizo. He enjoyed his dish a lot. I’m a paella snob so for me I didn’t like the consistency of the rice (too saucy) and there was no Socarrat. The prized burnt rice which lays in the bottom of a paella pan. It was nonexistent in his dish.
I order the churrasco (grilled skirt steak)with Chimichurri sauce on the side. Rice and peas, 3 thinly slice tostones (fried plantains) were on top of the rice and very tasty grilled vegetables. The veggies & tostones were the best part of my meal. The rice was bland (had no color to it) and the skirt steak (sliced) was on the chewy side.
While my meal wasn’t stellar it certainly wasn’t bad enough for me to send back. I ate everything but the rice & peas.
I drank a nice cappuccino to end meal.
We have now eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner there and I’ve not been impressed. Some hits by more misses
The cocktails are good as is the service. Without the wind barriers you have a lovely view. They have music Thursday to Sunday so that could warrant a return visit for a cocktail or maybe dessert and coffee.
