If you are going to spend over your planned budget, where in St. Maarten/ St. Martin would you spend it?

Any one, or two, of these at Ocean 82 might do it... (I can't understand why the images aren't showing - but the picture is from the wine cellar at Ocean '82 and the Gran Cru wines in the image are worth over $100K :))

Private villa with fenced area for my 3 large dogs that I would bring on a private jet along with my dog sitter so we could still go out & about without leaving the dogs alone at the villa.

Lori--yeah, we have small dogs, not large ones, but I forgot to figure in the private jet for the trip to the villa! Good thought!! Considering I bought 5 lottery tickets last night and got ZERO numbers on any of them, I think I probably won't have to worry about it regardless!!

Bank anything over budget and spend on additional unscheduled trips to SXM later on.

Eat out for every meal and generously tip the servers. Donate to local charities and churches.

MamaB--It is interesting how almost all the responses here have been totally different. Years ago, we ate out virtually every meal, usually high end meals, especially for dinner, and definitely tipped very well. These days, eating out every meal does not interest me in the slightest. It is interesting how one's wants and needs change over time. We still tip very well, regardless. I do appreciate the sentiment that one does need to share the wealth with those who are less fortunate.
Interesting topic!

"These days, eating out every meal does not interest me in the slightest." We are the same way now. We eat in quite often while on island. Not so much because of cost. It's so much healthier than restaurant food.

Scuba--I would like to say we eat in because it's healthier, but to me, it's more a matter of convenience and we just don't eat as much as we used to. Just don't want to bother to go out all the time. Not a matter of cost for us either.

When I said "eating out", I was trying to support local restaurants and staff. (Oh- I'd also have a personal driver at my disposal)

Buy a part of St. Martin, similar to Necker Island. Invite at least 20-30 of you. Arrange luxury transport to pick you up at your nearest private airport. Charter you in, welcome drinks(on tap) naturally, to your awaiting private villa(pool of course) with 24 hour butler, private beach and outdoor jacuzzis. Cars of your choice for your two week totally free stay, plus 200 foot yacht, just waiting to take you to Anguilla, St Barts or wherever. All outside meals paid for, but private gourmet chefs arranged at each villa for those who just wanted to do nothing and eat rather well and drink to excess, with only the finest bubbles served from huge tanks with a walking straw attached. Carol. You have 4 chefs all with different french fry skills. Haven't been around for a long time. Been quite ill with Myasthenia Gravis. In and out of hospitals here and the UK but hopefully on the way to recovery and just hope I can return next year. Good to see all the same people still enjoying SXM

Travel Hat--You know, we actually don't eat burgers very often at home, but there's something so satisfying about that burger on the deck at BSV!

I hear you. It might have something to do with the company, view, and bottle of vino. Love special places and moments repeated.

I would rent the big white villa on bay rouge. Just looked it up on a rental site and its showing starting at 13218.00 a night. Sleeps 14. Its gone up considerably since I looked at it a few years ago but i remember 40000.00 a week. Just noted that no pets allowed so ill take my beloved yellow lab and spend my fictitious money elsewhere

Order a 4 1/2 pound live lobster and have it cooked Thermidor style. The best restaurant for this is Bistro Caribes in Grand Case. About $200 just for the lobster, but worth it.

Give to the poor/needy....
I have been visiting St. Maarten for 48 years as well as many other Islands....but SXM is "home". In the USA, I live between FL (north of Tampa/Pasco/Brooksville) and CT. Any questions, please mail me: [email]MrStMaarten@aol.com[/email
