Sunday, Sept. 3 - Park, Sleep, Fly - Embassy Suites - MIA
Monday, Sept. 4 - AA to SXM Non Stop - Flight left an hour late due to a mechanical problem. Lesley was waiting with our car. Got in checked in @ LaPlage late as well. Thank goodness we had Jeannie deliver most of our supplies for the week. Had a cocktaill before unpacking. Decided we did not want to go anywhere for dinner. Ate at Tortuga on the premises. Pizza for me and Grilled Chicken Alfredo for Cindy. Leftovers for both of us. Strolled over to Casino Royale. Lots of changes. No more than 8 people there. High table minimums. Did not stay long.
Tuesday, Sept. 5 - Pool Day. Fat Tony's for steak.
Wednesday, Sept. 6 - Pool Day again. Not much motivation to leave this beautiful pool & small beach. Tried Sal Y Pepe for dinner. Closed. Tried all restaurants at Simpson Bay Resort. Closed (per the valet parking guy) except for the Bistro across from the new pay parking lot. La Patrona may have been open but could not find parking. Ended up in Cupecoy @ Rendezvous. Nice meal. Cindy had Gnocchi in Gorgonzola Sauce. I had Chicken Piccata. Big portions. Spent a little time at the Stars(?) casino. Having leftovers on Thursday.
Thursday, Sept. 6 - Shopping in Phillipsburg. Booze for me from Gulmohar's and a bracelet from Kay's for Cindy. Leftovers.
Not sure what tomorrow will bring. We gave up planning days long ago.
I love the music there, as it seems there aren't that many places on SXM where they play steel drums, for some reason. Was it super crowded for steak night? The last time we went there, it was very crowded, to the point where it was really uncomfortable to me.
We were on the same AA flight out of Miami. An hour and a half delay for a minor mechanical issue, and just waiting for paperwork, according to the pilot. This was a lesson not to fly to SXM on a U.S. holiday as supposedly they were short staffed.
By the time we got to the supermarket (Super U in Grand Case) it was around 4:00 and it was mobbed and not so well stocked. While I really like food shopping on the island, this was a time when Jeannie’s service would’ve come in handy.
Friday, July 8 - Today was a bummer. Pool and hung out in the condo. Both of us did not feel well so had takeaway burgers from Driftwood Boat Bar. Our plans were to do Jax or Moulin Fou for dinner. Just didn't happen.
Saturday, July 9 - La Rosa for dinner. Excellent as always. House made Old Fashioned's before dinner. I think I had the most tender fried calamari I have ever had. Not rubbery at all. It was served w/marinara but I should have asked for cocktail sauce. The warm marinara was excellent but I would have preferred the spiciness of the cocktail sauce. My wife had the Tortellini Della Nonna. She said it was excellent. Better than her Grandmother's. Happy Birthday to me!! My 69th.
Sunday, July 10 - Off to the airport at 10:45 a.m. for our 2:40 p.m. flight. Lesley suggested 3 hours minimum and was he ever right. We were early enough to have to wait a bit for AA to open. Breezed thru to the departure lounge. Had a sandwich in the 8-10 gate area. No issues boarding. Flight landed early in MIA. Luggage took forever. Forgot how long the walk was from the arrival gates to Passport Control. Embassy Suites shuttle was easy to locate & board and we were on our way home quickly.
We really needed a low profile R & R trip. This was it. Did absolutely nothing except RELAX.
