again we were looking forward to a light simple dinner so we decided on Pizza Italy only to find the chef had the night off and only pizzas were available
easy second choice as Jais Contemporary Fusion is right next door which was on our list for another night
Were we greeted by our server from Mario's a few nights earlier as he was enjoying his first day of vacation and sitting near the entrance
Service is very friendly as our waitress remembered my wifes name and Jai smiled over as they keep in touch through facebook
my wife selected a passionfruit mojito one of their speciality drinks, awesome
so much for the light meal as so much of the menu looked appealing
We started off with two small bites which are ordered by the piece Both were excellent, the beet root arancini, and a lamb samosa with a twist as it was served on puff pastry, my wife who is not big on lamb loved it
we repeated a choice from last year, a creamy ball of burrata with blistered tomatoes, you know a dish is good when you you recall it from the previous year and can't wait to enjoy it again
I selected a different starter, Octopus 65, a nice portion of very delicate and moist octopus, probably will ordered this again unless something looks better
For a main course my wife knew about a special of spinach agnolotti filled with a truffle ricotta, WOW!! they were super light pasta pillow with a soft creamy center with hints of black truffle and a brown butter sauce Luckily Jai said we got the last order for the night
I was having trouble making a decision but made the right choice of duck cooked as ordered, it was a very generous portion which I only ate half as I knew I needed to save room for dessert
Another reorder from last year was a rich decadent warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and a chocolate sauce poured tableside, the plate sizzled when the chocolate rolled over the ice cream and brownie unto the plate
Jai trained at CIA and offers some delicious imaginative cuisine, surely inked in for next year
We have eaten there and were not overly impressed with the food. This year we were headed to the PUB at 8:30 0n a Monday night. We parked by Jai's and the manager was standing outside as NO ONE was in the restaurant. As we got out of the car he came over and told us we couldn't park there(he obviously didn't remember us). I told him it was public parking and a short exchange followed. I decided to move the car rather than continue the discussion. As I got back in the car he walked up to the car and slapped the rear-view mirror and called me a F**King foreigner. I'm too old to get into a fight but 20 years ago this would have not gone unanswered.
We had a similar situation a few years ago when we tried to park by the Palms, as Greg said we couldn't park there. We still parked there. We were concerned there might be something wrong with the car when we came out, but there was no problem. Now, I would have moved the car.
Something doesn't sound right as I have never seen a manager at Jai's but only two sweet female servers. Jai himself is almost always cooking in the kitchen and mild mannered Maybe it was someone from Pizza Italy as they share the parking area
