If this had happened at night, one would think the driver was drunk. Not sure how this happened, but they are lucky to be alive.

Night or day. Drunk or stone cold sober, Cake House Road is not one to take for granted. Happy they are both alive and able to talk about it. πŸ™πŸ™for their continued well being.

Respectfully,

pat

True, that. We take it over the hill every few years, just for the heck of it, but definitely it is a road where one must pay attention!

Hated that road! Scary and as a New Yorker, did not like to drive it!
Or drive anywhere.

No one suggested anything of the sort! I wondered also, if it was someone familiar with the road or a tourist who may have never been on it.

That road has many very sharp turns, one should take with a lot of caution. On the map it's called Arlet Peters Rd. And doesn't always happen, someone is ether riding your bumper or "Evil Knievel is trying to pass you!!

Yes, many sharp turns, not heavily trafficked. I took it perhaps six times my last trip as a short cut to Union Road and to avoid heavy traffic elsewhere.

On several occasions I have been met with drivers coming up the wrong way as I am headed down.

Sorry, I thought it was a two way road? Or maybe I am not remembering correctly?

It's two ways for a short time at both beginning and end of the road, where there are some houses. Otherwise, it's one way over the hill from Kooyman and down the other side.
We take it sometimes for a change of scenery. It's really beautiful, but the driver has to pay close attention. Never go there when the roads are wet!

Before they put in the roundabout, we took that road fairly often to avoid the backup.

I’ve had some rental cars that could barely make it up the hill. πŸ˜‰

We have always called that road Kooyman Hill, never having known its real name. And my husband loves to go that way if it cuts off time. I am not a fan. But we always take our visitors across there so they can take a photo at the top of the hill.

The speed bumps is probably why the car went airborne?

Elaine,

The first time we took it we didn't realize it was a one way road as it wasn't clearly marked at the time. We found out soon enough with the annoyed drivers coming down the hill and honking at us. Won't go that way again!

It still after all these YEARS driving around on the island how insane some of these people drive so fast!! Now weather speed was a factor or not, these road are way to sharp curved to not be paying attention to the tightness of the turns!!!
