We have been to SXM numerous times, always staying at Club O. We would like to make another trip- SOON ! We have never rented a car, always had Wilfred Brooks meet us at the airport, and transport us to Club O. On the rare occasion we left Club O to venture into Marigot, etc we arranged for Mr. Brooks to handle that too. So, since Club O is no longer available (other than the beach), are there any places to stay within walking distance (maybe along the beach) to the Club O beach?
We plan to stay at a nice place, not necessarily C/O, then walking down (up?) the beach to spend the day at Club O beach. Is it even doable, or would we have to travel by rental car to find anyplace decent to stay? Our main reason to go and primary destination spot is Club O beach to enjoy the C/O environment again. Last time we were there was right before, and stayed at Club O during Hurricane Gonzalo when Tiko Tiko was washed up onto the beach between Papagayo and Watersports. We are long overdue.

It kind of depends on what your definition of 'walking distance' is. There are a TON of small condo rentals right in the middle of Orient Village. There is also La Playa, which is on the beach, right by the Village. And I'm having a senior moment, can't remember the name (Alamanda maybe?) that is re-opening as a hotel, after having been run as individual rental units for several years.

I was thinking a 10 or 15 minute walk-MAX. We aren't getting any younger, and you know that thing about sand gravity. Once you hit the beach, it kinda takes over.

To me, I would just break down and rent a car.

ALAMANDA would be an excellent choice and only a short walk to Club O.

We visited Orient Beach in March on a cruise ship, rented a car at the port and drove up to the beach. Parking lot on Wednesday was good. Beach bar was really nice, and chairs with umbrella good too. In fact, they were installing a permanent bathroom versus the somewhat dilapidated outhouse currently in use. Club Orient resort was very sad to see. Beach was good though all the way down to Papgayo's. Seaweed was a bit problematic. We even ran into the "Happy Hour Gang," alas, we had to rerun the ship.

Last November we stayed at the Orient Beach Hotel. The walk to the Club O beach was about 20 min for us being in our early 80’s. After 2 days, we found a friend who was staying at the same hotel and who had a rental car. We are hoping to go back this coming November, and will be renting a car for sure.

We have stayed at this place a couple of times and absolutely loved it. It is right on the beach and just a 2-3 minute walk to Club O beach. The owners are wonderful people and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. Just be warned, that this area has problems with water interruptions that can go on for several hours and even days.

We have stayed at numerous locations along ob. We have rented a Villa near orient village for this November. I would suggest checking out the properties on Blueoceanvillas and Islandescapesxm. They both have many properties in your walking space and have many size and price points for rental. Good luck!

Thought I'd add some clarity re Alamanda. Others have suggested that it was run as individual rental units over the past few years and is now being converted back to a hotel.

Prior to Irma, though Alamanda was run as a hotel, each room had a separate owner. It took a long time for the owners to decide how to move forward after the 2017 storm and reconstruction was slow. Most units now have a new owner. Though they announced that the project is complete, many owners still don't have their keys as minor work is completed.

My understanding is that owners wishing to rent out their units will do so through a service like VRBO or will rent directly. Hope this helps.

I had mentioned Alamanda, close by. Another thought Was Bruno Lemonie's Paradise bungalows, more than a walk from Club "O" but he does not mind "C/O" as long as the other guests don't mind! https://www.oparadis-sxm.net/nos-bungalows

Bruno and his wife Geraldine are the nicest hosts you will ever meet on the French side! We've stayed there MANY times!! I love a dip in the pool with a cocktail on the deck after the beach!! We love being close to the village!! She's all rebuilt after Irma reared her ugly head on her!! Have fun!!! Tell Bruno I said hello!!

We rented " Le Sucrier " studio apt. via Air B&B last March. Less than a 10 min. walk to OB, and less than $130/night. We have already reserved the same unit for 10 days in March of 2024. I would still rent a car.
