Just had to have some bbq ribs and couldn't wait till a week from this Saturday. I dry rubbed them with my wife's home made rub on Sunday and slow cooked them for 3 hours on the BBQ. Only thing missing was da island trade winds. Next rib fix will be at Lee's.

SXMScubaman. Are Lee's ribs THAT good? We just had a few cocktails the last time we were there. Our whole group loves ribs.

Mia--I think Mark's has the best ribs on island. Pretty much can't miss with anything there!

Yes. Lee's are very good if you like the ribs that you chew off the bone which I do to some extent. The rub they use is outstanding and grilled on charcoal. Marks are good but are more steamed than BBQed. Can't beat Lee's potato salad and coleslaw.

Carol and Scuba. Dually noted. Thank you both! We're staying for 11 days in August so I'm sure we can visit both!

Mia--If you go to Mark's, you have to try the scalloped potatoes and the garlic bread! Yum! And if someone doesn't want ribs, I think all their meals are good, huge portions, enough for leftovers for the next day! Enjoy!

Yes. Those scalloped potatoes at Marks are great. If you are there on the right day they might have a batch they put Spinach in too. They do that on Sundays and if there are leftovers they have it available on Monday.

And to add to what’s already been said, Marks ‘all you can eat ribs’ is the deal of the island but if you’re NOT a rib person, their ‘moules et frites’ are absolutely delish and reasonably priced, too. The broth is out of this world. Yummy!

Oh boy, ribs! What’s the rub your wife is using?

I’m due to smoke some more soon. Same 3 hr smoke on kamado, no sauce. Mesquite for smoking

I'm jumping in on this conversation with "Captain's Rib Shack" on Airport road!! OHHHYEAH!!! And the rum punch is really good! Order the combo for two!! Yes, Marks place is very good, no doubt about that! The Cap's is really good! And let us not forget Joan from Ms. Bee's on Dawn beach! Back then, those were the best ribs on the island! Hands down! https://www.facebook.com/captainsribshack

It's her secret. She takes up to 14 different spices in a blender and then hands it to me. Said it was a family recipe. Whatever it is everyone that has our ribs rave about them. Lee's come real close.

Note about Lee's. While we were there, heard from a few people that Lee's was sold a few months ago, and the food there have declined big time. We always LOVED Lee's ribs, and i wrote about them here many times. People were very dissapointed after eating there. If i only heard it from one person, i would've let it just go by, but hearing it from numerous people that were there at different times, well......we missed it this year. I did have ribs a few times from Captain's ribs,(which were fantastic), and also had some pretty good ribs from Driftwood. Made up for the loss of Lee's. smile

I was there in mid-March and either Lee, his wife or his son were there most of the evenings I stopped in, which was about every night for 11 nights. This "heard" crap needs to be substantiated, otherwise it is rumor and you are perpetuating it.

I have to agree with you, ruralcarrier. I don’t think any of us will knowingly perpetuate a rumor but all too often the “I heard from a friend who spoke to his ex-wife’s niece who talked to……WHOMEVER! and they said blah, blah, blah.”

My rule of thumb is if I didn’t get it from the direct source I don’t buy into it and sure will not repeat it.

SXM is an incredible source of all kinds of rumors, most of which ought NOT be shared.

Now, back to the question of Lees, did news of the sale come from Lee or a friend of a friend of a friend?

We were there last November. Although, Louise loved her lobster. I ordered the burger, in the past was amazing. Much to my suprise, they gave me a "Meatball" burger! Although is wasn't bad, it just wasn't there famous juicy burger. The service was nowhere to be found at times and there were only a few tables with guests. And we were on a time crunch or I would have sent it back. For you non smokers, the bar and dining area was all no smoking.

Correct pat. Repeating and posting in public without FACT is what irritates me. The fact Lee's son was there on a regular basis and appeared to be helping run the operation tells me it is still in the family. I think as we all know, about anything and everything is for sale at the right price but posting hearsay doesn't get it.

The more things are repeated and passed on without fact, the more bloated and sometimes exaggerated they become.

That's totally nonsense because Lee owns about four buildings right in the same area plus he just a big new apartment complex next R.R . Tackling Gas Station. Lee has nowhere to go lol.

I've been in contact with two of my island friends in the Restaurant business and they haven't heard anything about Lee's being sold or under new management. What was your source?

He "heard" it. It is hearsay and probably not credible.

Friends of ours just arrived on island and staying at Flamingo. Said they will personally stop in and ask. I'll report back what they say. I know it'll be second hand but trustworthy.

People believe that us as home owners and Dutch after having our belongings on this Island for years would just sell our souls for others that are money grabbing Lol .
