Woke up this morning just before 6 to a pretty good thunder and lightning storm. More coming around noon according to the radar. When the rain stopped I went for a walk around BSV and took a few pics. Most important was jetway #2 was installed overnight.

Thanks for the pics! That's funny, in all the times we have stayed there, never saw a chicken at BSV!

Honestly I am pleasantly surprised at the progress. We arrive two weeks from Monday. Wonder if we'll be deplaning on a jetway.

jbutah--I would say no. As far as I know, the upstairs of the airport is not nearly ready yet.

Carol, that thought crossed my mind. I couldn't remember if we were in that area of the airport for departure in April '21.

All departures are currently on the bottom floor of the airport. According to the airport's website, they are currently accepting bids for concessions for retail, restaurants, concessions, etc., and the bids won't close until May 1, 2023, so it looks to me it will be quite a while before the upstairs is ready to go.

SXM Airport website

By the way, there is a video on the website which is supposed to be what the airport will look like. Not much of interest there EXCEPT that I did notice there was an area supposedly for an executive lounge, which would be wonderful to have, once again. The website says "coming 2023", but we shall see.

Lesley--do you have any idea when they might actually have the upstairs complete enough, so that the jetways could be used?

Still raining at Juliana, as of 11:50 AM. Another reason why having those jetways in place is so important!

Thanks for sharing these photos! I love hanging out at the observation deck, watching the planes and the airport activity!! I hope the weather cleared up for the rest of the day!

We are flying in next Friday. What are the chances? That's a rhetorical question, by the way.

The chances of all 4 jetways attached to the terminal are probably pretty good by next Friday. The chances of the jetways being usable, definitely zero. Last Tuesday when we renewed our vows the wedding planner phoned the wedding officiant when everything was ready and said he works at the airport and would be here in a few minutes. After the ceremony we asked him when the jetways would be ready and he said that they would be attached to the terminal within 10 days. Wondering if island time was included in this estimate. After everything was done that day my wife gave all those involved a little gift bag, When he saw the bag and without looking he said "Tell me there is maple syrup in there". There was, and his face lit up. We also included a little bottle of Niagara on the Lake ice wine. Everyone was happy.

Whale Tail--was the maple syrup home made???

Did you ask the guy when he thought that the jetways would be useable?

Carol - Not by me, but it was Canadian made. No I didn't ask him when they would be in use. I don't think anybody has the answer to that question. smile

Carol - The weather is hazy this morning, no direct sun at the moment. My weather app says there is a 100% chance of rain this afternoon. Maybe time to grab my book and sit on the lanai. Nothing wrong about that, We're still in paradise.

Sitting reading a book on the lanai sounds heavenly right now. Unfortunately, it's only about 40 degrees outside here in MA. So a bit chilly for that.
