Surf is big at Flash of Beauty and Loblolly today. Where would the best alternate snorkel sites be?

Anything on the south side?

Unfortunately with huge swells the snorkeling options on Anegada are nil. Perhaps going out with Sherwin to more protected locations but that it the only option I can think of and those excursions book in advance.

No worthwhile snorkeling from shore anywhere here today.

Good morning. Any sargassum problems on Anegada? We will be there in mid May. Thanks

A lot of sargassum came in the last few days of January when there was a strong North ground swell (driven by low pressure systems far North in the Atlantic) combined with a North wind. After several days the wind shifted and that resulted in the heaviest build up of sargassum being washed away. The the rest of February we were getting squalls at night that would bring some in - it varied a lot from one day (or night) to the next. It is the most and the earliest I have seen it there. Because it was coming in with the storm action at night, there was not a lot in the water - it mostly washed up on the beaches so it didn't really interfere with going in the water. I did not notice the hydrogen sulfide smell that happens when it sits in the water and decays. Most of it was drying on the beach. We left on March1. We will be back in mid-April.

Kind of hard to forecast what it will be like in May. We were there beginning of Feb and there was already quite a bit on the N and E facing shorelines (early for the quantity received). It is a big bloom year.

Impossible to forecast even a few days ahead, much less months.

Very true. The difference can be dramatic from one day to the next.

Thanks for all the replies. I have nightmares after seeing it being removed with a front end loader on Macaroni Beach , Mustique years ago.

Surf was pretty rough all week. We actually found that Loblolly had more accessible snorkel areas that were doable even when Flash was way to rough.

Our best snorkel was with Sherwin though.
