It has just been reported that Calypso Boat Charters experienced a serious accident today. One tourist has died as well as a crew member and others including the captain have been injured. Thinking of all involved in this tragedy.

I believe the accident occurred in West End, Anguilla, not SXM.

The boat is based in Sint Maarten I believe. The surf has been high the last cuple of days.

But the accident was not in St. Maarten, which is what the title says.

Thanks JD. Sorry for the confusion. Perhaps I should have stated it was in the waters off of St. Maarten.😘

Unfortunately, that really doesn't give any new information. Anyone have any idea what really happened?

Can only speculate so far. Reading various stories it seems they got washed on the rocks by high waves and the victims drowned.

This is second hand info (talked to someone who talked to someone who was on the rescue scene) so take with a grain of salt.
Apparently they were there talking pictures and a big wave came and flooded the engine. At that point they had no way to escape the subsequent huge waves and they got knocked into the rocks.
An incredible tragedy all around. My heart goes out to all the families.

There is a small article in the printed edition of The Daily Herald today but not really anything more than what has already been mentioned.

There really is little to no information on what led to the accident available yet. And just now, on VHF16 the French MRCC called out on a missing powerboat (17m long, 3x300HP engines, 2 PAX) around the French side. I hope that the situation ends up better.
