First day in BVI. Decided to take a FCFS ball in Diamond Cay with an orange boaty ball sticker affixed. To be clear it is a white ball with a blue stripe and an orange sticker attached. I paid the $40 online.
At 6:30 pm 2 people in a dinghy come by to collect the fee. We stated we paid for the FCFS ball online. He said no, we need to pay him - the orange moorings are boaty ball moorings - not the white ones with a blue stripe.. We stated that we aren’t paying twice and we did what we were supposed to do according to boaty ball website. Then he stated he is getting someone to deal with us and left in a huff.
What a welcome!

I have heard of this happening before. I believe it is a scam. I would contact Boaty Ball and tell them what occurred. Describe the boat and person. Boaty Ball will contact the mooring ball owner.

At 6:30 it's pretty dark, so a good time if you're pulling a stunt and don't want to be seen. Most places collect well before dark.
