Not the first time for a jewelry store robbery in that area. Recall a robbery some years back with a shoot-out that saw bullets hitting the ice cream shop next to Cheri's.

We were in Maho when it happened. We were walking back from the market and heard the shot. A person in a jeep wrangler took off after them but turned around and came back. Scary when it happens and from what I saw, the police were questioning several tourists in and outside the store. Not to put a damper on everyone's vacation but a female friend staying in Jordan Village was going to Mullet at 1:30 in the afternoon and was walking on the golf cart path when 2 men with a knife came out of the trees and robbed her. Police were called and a report was made but no one was caught. Safety is the biggest concern right now for visitors.

I thought the police had a small sub-station in the La Terrasse building which should be close enough to hear a gun shot. Maybe it's not there anymore, and if it is not, maybe they should re-think that decision.

The police arrived approximately 8 to 10 minutes after it happened. So possibly the sub station is not open anymore.

I’ve long felt there should be more of a police presence in that area and now, with the growth of Jordan Village and the entire Cupecoy area, it would be even more advantageous.

So sorry for those impacted by the robbery and the long term effects it may have on the area as a whole. We remember the other jewelry store robbery there a few years back and before that, the casino and patrons of what was then Atlantis, or possibly Starz.

Respectfully,

pat

Yikes…we walked by there last night not too long after it happened! We'd eaten dinner inside at Le Moulin Fou and were strolling through the area to see what new stores and restaurants had opened in the old Cheri's area. There were several police cars and officers standing in the area so figured something was going on. Guess we were lucky the restaurant was busy so it took a while to get our check!

The main thing is no one was hurt.

It's quite concerning when a shot is fired.

While that is always a good thing, the fact this happened in a densely visited area (and continues to happen on the island) is a major concern. You kill the tourism and you kill the economy of the island.

Very scary - when did the incident happen with the knife on the golf cart path? I’m blown away that in broad daylight this happened. Beyond brazen with so many people around. The golf cart path is wide open through the fairway too Kalatua.

Well said. I just hope someone in Gov't feels the same way.

It happened last week. she walked onto the golf course from Rhine Road by Cupecoy Beach Resort. Just before the foot path joins the golf cart path the trees are fairly close and that is where it happened. 1:30 in the afternoon one would feel safe with golfers, beach goers and the Kalatua (sp) shuttle nearby but the thieves had an opportunity and took it. One would think that the Dutch government would get on the ball and have a better presence in the Maho to Coup Coy area!! Grateful no one was hurt, it could have been a lot worse!! Has anyone been in Maho village when the kids on the bike and four wheelers come and terrorize the town??? It would be great if the police could box them in and confiscate all of those vehicles!! Some of those kids are carrying guns too!!

The substation has been gone for a few years now in Maho. I think it was no more than three years ago, when the other jewelry store in maho was robbed...and a few years before that if i remember correctly, was another jewelry store in Maho had the same fate. It's very sad. Once again, SXM is paradise, but surely not Utopia.

The substation was so hidden. It should be out on the main drag. That way the officers would get to know the “characters” that play the games in Maho. I see some of the same shady guys Year after year! It’s sad that you can’t even use bathrooms at certain places without being asked if you want drugs.
