It was a day of rest, relaxation and visiting wonderful friends.
After yesterday’s wild trip through Anguilla (loved every single second) we powered down a bit. It was back to work for us but every once in a while, I would take my eyes off the client emails and stare at the view. Sigh. Double Sigh. We love our “Mary’s Boon Beach House”.
We solved a few issues and then hit the beach for some much-needed playtime. “Sun, Soak, and Splash” became the theme of the afternoon, and all meals came from our over stocked fridge. (how many kinds of flavoured Gouda did I buy?)
Around 3:30p.m. we got cleaned up and headed into Philipsburg. We made a direct landing right in front of DK Gems International and right into the arms of Raj, Jeff and Deepti. We love this family so much (like many of you do). No trip to St. Maarten is complete without seeing their beautiful faces.
They have installed a new bar at the back of their store, and it is amazing! We didn’t feel like anything fancy, but I didn’t turn down a beautiful glass of organic wine picked out by Super Connoisseur Jeff and Gary had a beer. After toasting the new installation and admiring Raj’s expanded line of bracelets (my weakness), I headed out to Front Street to my favourite stores. Within 45 minutes I had picked out three beautiful beach coverups from India, a real cool shirt and a funky necklace with a bright pink tassel on the end giving off a great boho vibe. Success!
Raj and Jeff suggested we continue catching up over dinner, so Anjali joined us and we went to Chesterfields. Do you know how many years we have been trying to get to this restaurant that all of you have raved about for years? Every trip I would tell Gary, this time we’re going to Chesterfields and then it wouldn’t happen. So, I almost cheered as I walked through the doors; it’s only taken us twenty years. LOL
Raj was starving after a long day at the store, so we ordered quickly; Coconut Shrimp, Hurricane Shrimp and Calamari. Then we all ordered our mains which were steaks, pastas and Chesterfields’ Chicken. I loved the outdoor vibe in the harbour and a beautiful breeze kept the bugs away. It was a lovely dinner and an amazing night with our beautiful friends.
I had dinner at Chesterfield's for the first time in March, very good and I would return. I have had breakfast there a few times and it was good but one lunch visit several years ago was disappointing.
Another wonderful day in paradise! I’m enjoying your posts.
Our SXM vacations always include visits to DK Gems and Chesterfields. I believe the first dinner at Chesterfields was in 1998. The food is consistently very good/plentiful, and the prices are reasonable. As for DK Gems, they’ve treated us so well over the years, and they truly make you feel like family.
Sounds like a nice day. I love Chesterfields! Been going there since the early 90's and never a disappointing meal. Lovely dining overlooking the water.
