Wonder how those with homes built in that area will like that. Beach isn't a swim beach which I would think a luxury resort should have. Time will tell how it all plays out.
Can’t imagine how they will screw that once nice mountain up anymore than what they have already done in the past few years. Driving by it Looks like a boring housing project. The beach is not great. Hopefully this project will be better. I do wish them success.
But the beach can always happen down the road. Mebbe! Once upon a time there was no beach at Pelican and Flamingo as I recall from way back in the day but the diehard entrepreneurs made it happen. Finally after several failed attempts that is.

The restaurant there is very, very good, and it's a beautiful view. I have seen people in the water there, but it's not a particularly inviting beach, and I personally wouldn't go in the water there.
There is sort of a beach, quiet, with a terrible road leading in. As Pat said, other places have "created" beautiful sand beaches; some places had no semblance of a beach. Here they'll have a leg up to start. But I always thought there was a great undertow there. Haven't been back in many years.
I’m with you, Linda. Not a beach destination for me but our lunch there last November was delicious. The road in and down to the parking might look somewhat intimidating but it’s really no problem. The only real problem I had with the place was the distance we had to walk from where we were able to find a parking spot. Tough walk for anyone the least unstable on their feet. But the food and service were worth the effort.

OMG!! Is this the end of Indigo beach restaurant?? It's one of our favorite lunch spots! With lunch you get chairs free. If you want! Can swim??? LOL!!! Road?? only the last 50 yards is gravel. Not so bad, just can't go to fast! It's fine! Nobody bitched about the back road to Club Orient and Baywatch???
Ever since we discovered it several years ago, we always visit the Indigo Beach restaurant for lunch at least once every trip. When we went there shortly after noon this past February, we were very lucky to get a table. The place was jammed, and we were told that in the future it would be wise to get reservations -- for lunch! When this new resort opens, bringing hundreds more potential customers, we may have to make reservations several days ahead!
Nice pictures. I would not want to go there for a beach day. Lunch maybe but that isn't an inviting looking beach. Too many other nicer ones on the island.
Sunwing will be nothing but a memory long before that resort is built. It was officially bought by Westjet last month and is going to be absorbed by Westjet.. So much for competition! George
I spoke with Sylvia, the owner-co owner with her husband. She said they will flight to stay. I wish her well, but as we all know, the little guy gets kicked in the teeth every time!! I pray it doesn't happen! We love it there! Everything is so good, the people that work there are so nice!! It's just lil slice of heaven!
Carol, I learned a long time ago re SXM to believe almost nothing until I see it materialize with my own eyes and in real time. Rumors have a way of taking off and all too often never happen. Not saying this is the case here but…..

Nice video but really didn't do the beach any favors. Not a place I'd want to spent quality time at. Removing those rocks will only cause instability of the shore line.
We really like Indigo Beach. We try and go at least two times while we’re in St. Maarten. They have a very good lunch and terrific staff. Sometimes we use their chairs and umbrella, or we bring our own and sit further away. There’s hardly anyone on that small stretch of beach so you really have it all to yourself. The water is clean and usually calm. I even snorkel there, although I haven’t seen much. Only thing to be careful of are the rocks while swimming in certain areas. That’s a restaurant you don’t want to miss. Thank you Doug from the Horny Toad for recommending it to us.
Watching this video, I don't get the impression that the restaurant is in any danger of being bought out. IMHO. God willing!! We didn't make it last year, but it's on the list for this trip.
