This is the former Cheri's Cafe site in Maho.
Here are some current photos of the development Sept 7 2022.

Looks interesting - thanks for posting. I know traditionalists will miss Cherie's, but this looks like it's going to bee a pretty classy replacement.

I like the fact that they planted some real palm trees. I thought that was a nice touch 🌴🌴🌴

We were hoping it would be open in November but it doesn’t look like it to me. I guess we can hope for February.

It's starting to take shape. Have to laugh at the upgrade comments. In my opinion, and many others too, McDonalds would've been an upgraade to Cheri's. LOL

Guess I'm the odd one out here. I quite liked the old Cheri's. Yes, the entertainment and decorations were cheesy but the food was good for the money and the staff were exceptionally pleasant. We went back year after year and the woman who seemed to be the manager always remembered us and offered a welcome back drink on the house. It was a great spot to people-watch at night. We always stayed at Maho towards the end of our trips there. You could have a few drinks at Cheri's and not have to worry about driving anywhere afterwards. Good times.

Southshore....You are not the only odd man or woman out. We bought our timeshare at Royal Islander in 1992 and always enjoyed ourselves at Cheri's. It's where we met most of, if not all of our island friends that we still keep in contact today. The food wasn't fine dining, but the bartenders and waitstaff were wonderful!! Our children and grand children loved the decorations...it was the perfect place to keep them entertained while having dinner. It was always our first dinner on the island....after a long travel day it was the perfect place. Many evenings back when their hours went longer in to the night we were leaving with the staff....LOL....after many hours of dancing!! It was the go to place....some nights it seemed most of the island was there partying...LOL Like you said, there was no worry about driving at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. Sadly all good things must come to and end whether they are cheesy or not. But we have our memories of the fun times and wonderful people we met there over the years.

We too enjoyed Cheri's. Food was decent, we made great friends there and it was one of the few places you could actually dance to music you recognized. Yes....the entertainment was a bit stale, but it was a great place to grab a bite and/or drink and we always received a friendly welcome.

We only went to Cheri’s once years ago (once was enough since their shows were pretty repetative), but I do remember the staff being very pleasant and accomodating. Food wasn’t bad and the drinks were decent. We were with another couple and our hubbys got picked on to participate in the show, dressing up as women (those who have been there will well remember that scenario). Ed definitely wasn’t enjoying his tiime on stage, but I think I laughed harder than I ever have just watching them. It remains a fun memory and it comes up in our conversations from time to time. So not a bad thing. It was what it was, just a fun evening out - best enjoyed with friends and a few drinks. toast

We too used to stop there for a drink or two while strolling through Maho in the evening after dinner. I think we had a lunch or two over the years there but never dinner. We thought it was an Okay spot for what it was, actually were sorry to see it gone.

Well, they say it is still scheduled to open mid November.
If and when it opens, I will take some photos and post them.
It will be interesting to see what food options are available.

In the '90s we had enjoyable times at Cheri's. Met some famous people there. A guy next to me kept getting people walking up to him so I said, "are you famous?" and he said his album had just come out in Holland. Good looking dude.

Once "the show" ended, the dancing was fun. I just HATED the bathroom situation. Hope that is improved.

Never got into the dinner scene at Cheri’s - tried it once and once was more enough for us - but we always enjoyed a quick burger lunch there to be washed down with a Guava Colada.

I have to say, the hokey evening entertainment caused us to go to LeMoulinFou on Tuesday evenings when Cheri’s was closed or else dine inside which has never been my first choice.

Respectfully,

pat

Yes. Noise level was perfect for dining. That is when we went to Fig when it was there too.

Yep, still have a couple of those. The heart shape and one shaped like a hand. Never saw the fish shape. Cute.

Sadly, Fig didn’t last all that long. We went in January, eating inside and when we returned in April they told us it was closed but would reopen soon. I’m not altogether certain it ever did but I know it did NOT reopen during the two weeks we were there,
We far preferred FIG at its earlier Cupecoy location.

Pat--I liked Fig at the old location also. I suspect the reason they didn't last at the Maho location was the rent had to be several times what it was in Cupecoy.

I’m sure you’re correct re the rental costs but add to that the fact there were so many other options in the general Maho dining area.

Well, that's true for sure, but there are also many more options to dine in the Cupecoy area than there used to be, a few years ago.

There were other reasons im not privileged to share why they closed Maho local. We are good friends with prior owner and have had dinners at his home along with having him over to our place for dinner since they closed. Great person that now has a nice rb&b that he also cooks for the guests.

This was part of my conversation with Jay( 3 amigo's & Jax) back in August this summer: 2 restaurants, Bar , and a few food trucks , we also have a deli / pastry shop on the other end slated for nov 1-15 opening.

A deli and pastry shop would be ideal in that location. I hope they both come to fruition. Especially staying at LaPlage.
